Anyone here do mountain climbing? My son works on wind towers and I want to get him some carabiners. Need help with which are the good brands and where to find them. Thanks

I did a long time ago, injury took me out of the sport. Still have my gear. The carabiner are made by Chouinard. Rated for 2100kg. Not sure if they are still around.

I was a dirt bag climber for 10 years. First 3 years a lot of big wall. Year 5 free water open. I liked living so I gave that up quick
Last 5 or so strictly bouldering and competitively. ( no ropes or gear and under 35 ft) injuries ended all of it. Free climbing has risks
Stick with a big name. I always used petzl and black diamond.
Won’t go wrong with them. High quality gear. When your life depends on the gear, you don’t cut corners

Back in high school and college I was super into rock climbing. I’d spend almost every weekend at Joshua Tree, or Tahquitz rock in Southern California. Every year I’d go up to Yosemite and do a big wall. Halfdome, El Capitan, Sentinel, Royal Arches, Boot Flake, Thank God Ledge, the Zigzag Cracks, El Cap Tower, the Headwall, The Spire, Long Ledge. Super awesome stuff. But then, I decided that I should finally become an adult, and went to graduate school. That ended my climbing career.
The technology has changed many times over since I got out of the sport. I wouldn’t be able to make any equipment recommendations.

My rack has mostly Black Diamond.
Petzl and Metolius are good, too.

If it's safety gear then he should only use what he is issued by his employer. If he's self employed then he probably knows what he needs.
Sorry for the lack of help but there are different carabiners for different purposes. It would be a total guess on our part if he needed a large locking
carabiner for a harness or a small regular ones for attaching ropes to anchors.

I used to climb and mountaineer... Now-a-days I use carabiners mostly for loading and rigging stuff... so hard on them. I buy in bulk and cheap when I catch a blem sale... ![[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]](https://i.postimg.cc/CLPTqFRR/image-2.png) As for life safety stuff... name brands only... also a very personal decision on what works... some guys are OCD on a safety gate... some guys hate them. Some like "D"... some like oval. Weight is a big factor for some, others... not so much. The ones above are great for safety chains on a trailer etc. Logging and winching, but know the limits and plan for failure. I have only broken one carabiner to failure... and bent two.
If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

Sometimes on 2-3% (Walmart and Home Depot)... sometimes more. REI might be 9% (but I hate REI anymore)...
