This morning I went in to the Sporting Goods store to pick up my order of bullets.

The earnest young store clerk person puts the box up on the counter, looks at the carton label, then looks at me, then at the carton label again.

Finally, earnest young store clerk person says: "you do realize these are BULLETS, and not LOADED AMMUNITION, right?". Me: "OMG, REALLY!???"

Meanwhile, my buddy the gun counter manager off to the side is just cracking up.

Finally he steps in and says: "Pud, you would not believe what we had to deal with during the Christmas rush. We finally had to tell everyone to point out the difference between bullets and ammo".

Dark clouds looming....

It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

A similar thing happened to me just the other day. I put my box of 168 grain bullets on the checkout counter and the cashier asked me if I handload. I smiled and said I sure do.

Congratulations on experiencing your first vision of what equality looks like to the liberal democrats. Been in the construction business for 40 +. The last few years have changed my paradigm.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all

Yeah, and most of the time I'm old enough to the grandfather of those that are asking. When they ask for a birth date I tell them 11/11/11 or 12/7/41.

I had a devil of a time once, trying to mail a box of Nosler's to a friend. The lady clerk at the Post office said they couldn't mail "bullets". I said, ma'am, yes you can. You can't mail "cartridges", but, she said, "it says bullets right on the box". I said yes ma'am, that's the part the 'cartridge'" shoots out the barrel, its just copper and lead". After she checked with the Manager, she mailed them. wow.

sad to say but stupid does not care which side of the counter it is on these days.
Sometimes I like to stand and listen to what is said from both sides of the counter. Stupid is not a one way street

At this point I am done saving them from their stupidity. I just smile and sell them whatever they want. Maybe they will learn something.

How about “bulletheads” as on Gunbroker ads.

They didn’t put that sign up because all their clients are rocket scientists. I’m sure that job is very trying at times. Edk

You must be a real pleasure to be around. Nice power move on minimum wage clerks.

I’d have said, “nope, I’m just gonna throw them really hard.”

Just say- "Yup, and I would buy some powder, primers, brass, and a few other things if you had any of that in stock for a change.... "

Same thing happened to me the last time I bought a box of bullets at a gun store. The funny thing was, it was at Whittakers, a store that is run very professionally, and the clerk was a guy that's been there for years. I'm wondering if this is a thing that has sprung up from the ammo shortage, with some customers wanting ammo so bad, that they'll buy anything that looks like a box of ammo..................which for the record, a box of Hornady 6mm bullets does not. Anyway, I was nice, and told the guy behind the counter that I knew what I was buying. I figured he had to deal with enough crap, that he didn't need any from me.

I haven't bought a new gun in quite a while and have stockpiled my reloading needs for many years, so have very little experience with clerks behind gun store counters. So, when I finally located a pocket pistol I'd been wanting to try out, I immediately went to Academy Sports to get it. I figured I'd likely have to deal with a 'minimum wage dufus' that was relatively clueless. I got the opposite. The young man was a former marine with a concealed carry permit that not only knew firearms and ammo but discussed concealed carry issues very intelligently. Also, Academy's paperwork hoops that a buyer has to deal with were not as big an issue as I expected. The biggest irritation was when they had to have a person escort me to the front door carrying my weapon for me.

Good to hear about Academy, I have not bought one from them in years and to be honest, don't remember anything about their process.
I did buy one from Walmart a couple of years ago, what a pain in the butt.
