It has been my experience that on many Winston knives, the handle is a skosh' short for my tastes. Not this one. The scales measure 4.7" with 4.5" to the point of the guard.
The scales measure+/- .680" thick at the rear Mosaic pin and +/- 1.176 deep. Plenty of "beef" to give one purchase when skinning.
There is one small scuff on the right side scale near the bottom edge.
The Scales are not perfect but I'd call them 90%

Pretty much the Ingrams' I have now are one-off's that Gene did out of courtesy. I'm not ready to let those go yet.

I did for quite a spell.
However, I've come to realize at 5'8", a pistol with 6" bbl is not the wisest for carry when it comes to quick deployment. When I draw, the barrel on a 6" revolver or semi-auto tends to hang up on the lip of the sheath due to my short torso/arm length
I do not care for the restrictions of chest holsters and thigh rigs.
I came by this one by accident, which was as a consolation. This is a very early Steingass, and is the one that got me interested in his knives. I'll tell the story to whomever buys this knife.

This is a one-off Set of Steingass Knives. At $10K, S.R. Johnson's "Loveless Lambs were above my pain threshhold. I asked both Gene Ingram and TK Steingass to do a set of "repro's". This is the set TK made. 154 CM, White Linen Micarta, Stainless Loveless style pins, (G10 filled), thin black liners, bolsters and tapered tangs.
Like most of my knives, I've probably ruined the collector value as these also have been pre-enjoyed.

I just happen to have two Ingrams that might pique your interest, and I'll give you the right of first refusal on either or both, and I won't ask for "rape + 10%"
However, I must regale you with the story behind a certain Ingram group buy carbon fiber knife, due to it's history. The story may come as TMI, but sometimes I just can't hep' it.
The first is the Ingram ARAIG Group buy knife from 2013
So around 1999 I started hunting the Texas Hill Country with a bunch of guys. By that time there was the internet.
I logged onto Accurate Reloading under my current screen name in 2001. That’s when I learned that Texans didn’t know the first thing about hunting, much less about being a “Western Hunter”
Around 2008 Big Stick/Boxer/Busheler/ Larry came over and literally “blew up” the AccurateReloading website. He made something like 700 posts in the 36 hours he was there before he was banned for life.
I happened to be in Galveston Texas for our Annual “Brown Beach Week”, and had my computer and access to my Photobucket files.
I type by touch and am decent with photos, but Stick absolutely smoked me and his pix were incredible, Alaska being so much different than Texas.
Somehow I found out he posted at 24hourcampfire.com.
I’d never heard of 24hourcampfire. So, I found the forum, registered and started posting.
Anyway, being an ignorant Texan that just went out and killed [bleep] with rifles, I was totally unfamiliar with what it took to be a Western Hunter. I soon got the basic gist on the fire.
I’d never heard of Gene Ingram, but I knew that Stick was Lord Almighty over at ARAIG, and Darrick, who I only knew as ShortActionSmoker had this ARAIG group buy knife up for sale in the classifieds.
Being the passive/aggressive kind of fuzz-ball that I am I got this idea and contacted Darrick, and told him of my plan.
He was kind enough to sell me the Ingram Group buy knife and to school me in the ways of being a “Western Hunter.
He sent me the blue tape for the muzzle, a swirly crayon so I could paint the stock of one of my nice wood stock rifles to imitate a faux McSwirley, a 6mm, 105 grin Hornady A-Max bullet and of course the ARAIG group buy Ingram.
Shortly after that I took the Ingram to my lease and perforated a couple hogs, and took pix with the ARAIG knife.
By that time Stick was back from banishment and was doing his thing on the fire…….
And making sure I knew how much he hated all things Texan.
At the end of one of our numerous tete-e-tetes, I put up the pix pf the ARAIG knife,
and on the last one captioned it
“ARAIG group buy knife, held hostage in Texas”
I know, “inside baseball”, but I still chuckle when I think back or look at the pix!
The second knife is from a year or two subsequent to that when there was an effort to do another group buy.
Someone there at ARAIG posted a RW Loveless repro that was by Gene Ingram as the prototype for their next group buy.
This was during the time of my infatuation with Loveless "Lambs".
It was at that time Gene did this one.
I do believe it is a "one -off" and did not have a model number.

AFAIK, I’m in good health, not currently financially embarrassed, kids are grown and out of the house, and have managed to stay married to the same woman for 43 years.
I was on a ride a while back, and was bunking with a guy I’d known for over 30 years. We went to church together, our kids were the same ages. I had two sons and a daughter, he had two daughters and a son. He made a statement that was more prescient than either of us knew at the time. He said, G-dub, “I used to think that when you got older, your kids got out of the house and school and on their own, and you retired, life would get easier, But it don’t. It just gets harder and harder till it kills ya”!
If you knew you were going to die, how would you choose to spend the remainder of your days.
To put it crudely we all suffer from a sexually transmitted disease that is ultimately fatal, its called life.
Well, news flash, sooner or later I’m gonna die. I tell folks I wanna’ arrive at my coffin 30 minutes late, my parts all used up, an adult beverage in one hand, a cigar in the other, exclaiming “Woohoo, what a ride”.
I see it as a matter of perception and personal choice whether to be depressed or look forward to the vicissitudes of life.
IIRC it was John Barrymore that postulated “A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams". I like to think that I still have dreams.
I started collecting firearms in the early 90’s, and knives later. I have had a ball acquiring them, enjoying their use, (a big part of which is the photography aspect) making memories and entertainment while posting pictures of them along with stories on forums such as this.
I find that as I age, my circle of personal acquaintances gets smaller and smaller with the passage of time. However, via forums such as 24hour, these items have, and will continue to allow me to make friends and meet folk from many walks of life that I would never have had the opportunity on any other basis. I like that.
In the last two days I’ve had several individuals who have seen that I’m selling numerous Items from my collection contact me either by voice, text or PM’s to inquire “what condition my condition is in. I am humbled, and grateful by and for that.
In addition, thanks to the good folk here, I’ve sold enough “stuff” to pay for an upcoming quail hunt in Alabama (where I will get to play with guns and knives, and cameras) with one of my siblings and a life-long friend, and for the upcoming 24hr Campfire Hog Hunt in March.
As a serendipity, I did not endure one minute of the boob tube nor talk radio, while doing so.
In closing,

I've always read your posts and admired the fact that you were still out there hunting and marveled at the cutlery that you have, and that you actually use it. You have obtained many a knife, I only have one Ingram knife that I bought off of my friend EHG. EHG told me "getting your 1st Ingram knife is like your 1st piece of @$$, once you have one you will be ruined for life"....spoken like only he could tell it.

Damn GWB, I was thinking of buying one of your famous knives even though I don't need anymore, but then you had to mention the birthday thing along with the age thing as a reason for selling and I thought sob, we have the same birthday and are the same age! So now I'm thinking, do I need to start selling off stuff too? Do I get depressed or look forward to the filthy lucre?

So, a soliloquy on a Sunny Saturday morning.
AFAIK, I’m in good health, not currently financially embarrassed, kids are grown and out of the house, and have managed to stay married to the same woman for 43 years.
I was on a ride a while back, and was bunking with a guy I’d known for over 30 years. We went to church together, our kids were the same ages. I had two sons and a daughter, he had two daughters and a son. He made a statement that was more prescient than either of us knew at the time. He said, G-dub, “I used to think that when you got older, your kids got out of the house and school and on their own, and you retired, life would get easier, But it don’t. It just gets harder and harder till it kills ya”!
If you knew you were going to die, how would you choose to spend the remainder of your days.
To put it crudely we all suffer from a sexually transmitted disease that is ultimately fatal, its called life.
Well, news flash, sooner or later I’m gonna die. I tell folks I wanna’ arrive at my coffin 30 minutes late, my parts all used up, an adult beverage in one hand, a cigar in the other, exclaiming “Woohoo, what a ride”.
I see it as a matter of perception and personal choice whether to be depressed or look forward to the vicissitudes of life.
IIRC it was John Barrymore that postulated “A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams". I like to think that I still have dreams.
I started collecting firearms in the early 90’s, and knives later. I have had a ball acquiring them, enjoying their use, (a big part of which is the photography aspect) making memories and entertainment while posting pictures of them along with stories on forums such as this.
I find that as I age, my circle of personal acquaintances gets smaller and smaller with the passage of time. However, via forums such as 24hour, these items have, and will continue to allow me to make friends and meet folk from many walks of life that I would never have had the opportunity on any other basis. I like that.
In the last two days I’ve had several individuals who have seen that I’m selling numerous Items from my collection contact me either by voice, text or PM’s to inquire “what condition my condition is in. I am humbled, and grateful by and for that.
In addition, thanks to the good folk here, I’ve sold enough “stuff” to pay for an upcoming quail hunt in Alabama (where I will get to play with guns and knives, and cameras) with one of my siblings and a life-long friend, and for the upcoming 24hr Campfire Hog Hunt in March.
As a serendipity, I did not endure one minute of the boob tube nor talk radio, while doing so.

Well said GWB. You have a great way with words. I do hope you understood that I wrote that with tongue in cheek as they say. Sarcastic humor is what I would call it. I cannot think of a time in my entire life where I could honestly say I was depressed. As for slowing down, a little I suppose, but recently started rebarreling a 223 to 204 for Coyote hunting,(even though I have a 204 already), then I bought a stock that needs finished out which I will do and install it on another rifle. And the list goes on and on. Just today I drove up into the mountains, walked back a trail about 2 miles, most of which was uphill, and set up to call some Coyotes. This was by myself as I usually prefer, and never gave it a thought of what if........ Lot of snow and ice up there, but I drove the 2 wheel drive this time anyway. I will admit to recently thinking I should maybe start selling some of the rifles I don't use, but then again..............
Like you, my circle of friends is getting smaller as they pass on, but I have new ones I've met on here that fill those gaps. As others have said, I love reading your stories and always look forward to your posts.

Those will not be going on the chopping block any time soon unless its to be used to skin or decapitate a critter. Ya!
I was in need of checking out something and I revisited this thread for the first time this AM. I was up from 12:30 to 4:30 looking for a Menefee set I had committed to selling and could not find as well as about six others I have misplaced when I relocated my collection.
Anywho, I’ve now been juggling PM’s from 42 different individuals, and so far have only over-committed once, and managed to get that fixed to all’s satisfaction. However, the day ain’t over yet and I’m mechanically inclined…… I can screw up anything. LOL
I could not refrain from making a response, even at this late hour.
For those that do not know Todd is a custom knifemaker and his leather work is amazing. We are old friends from my Accurate Reloading days. In fact, I was to do an elk hunt with Todd. IIRC that was about the time my dad passed and I was not able to make the trip.
So here is the gist of a post I made in the Knives forum in regard to Mr. Todd Thayn, Thayn Custom Knives....................
Full disclosure: Todd Thayn and I had been internet buds for prolly near a decade or more before I knew he was making knives and sheaths.
Todd posts here on 24hr. using the screen name of "justahunter"
This is the first knife that I got from Todd, Weathered L6 Steel and Spalted Pecan.
IIRC, Todd told me that he had let the bar stock from which these knives were made weather for +/- 6 years.
He inscribed my initials and birthdate on the spine.

It works!
He has been kind enough to make a set of 4 kinves for my two boys, oldest grandson and my son in law.
Here are two of those. He engraved their initals and birthdate on the spine of each knife.
and their initials on the sheath that accompanied each knife!
My grandson Jacob's knife was given to him for his birthday. This deer and 5 others were skinned with his knife the day he took this buck, before it had to be resharpened.
The next knife is Todds interpretation of a Nessmuk style blade. Weathered L6 Steel and Buffalo horn scales
In your downtime (which is less than most folks), you ought to compile a lot of the stories you have shared on the forums over the years and have a story book made of them. I would personally be in for several copies! I always enjoy the read!

Thank you! I don't make nearly as often as I'd like as I have 4 young kids and a full time job. I'd like to be a full time maker but I can't give up the benefits quite yet and being a Daddy always comes first. I didn't make but 2 knives in 2021 and those were to raise monies for a VFW post and one for a friends daughter fighting leukemia. I do have a large batch in progress though. It feels good to be making again and hope to have some inventory here very soon.

The scales are Ivory, not Ivory Micarta, but real ivory from an Elephant Cow.
Parsons did the sheaths. The rattlesnake insert was from a Rattler that Rocky caught. The elephant hide insert is from the ear of the aforementioned cow.

I saw the opening post in this thread and glanced at as I don't "need" any more knives. I did think it was curious that GW was selling a knife as that was out of character for him. This morning I saw it was going on 7 pages so opened it back up, seems like I'd been missing one of the most entertaining threads in years on the 'Fire!

Well, it seems the older I get my repertoire of stories is getting smaller and smaller.
So, here is the story of how I came by my first "Menefee Made" knife.
Some folks here have probably heard a version of this one, but perhaps they will indulge an old fart.
But first…….
Seems there was a fellow, Leroy. He was a powerful sinner. Always getting drunk, fighting, hanging with disreputable folk and such.
Now Leroy’s cousin was a bible-thumpin’ evangelist. He was always trying to get Leroy to come to church meetings, so the holy ghost could save his soul.
One summer night Leroy was catting around town, “big pimpin” and he jus’ happened to cruise by where his cousin was holding a tent revival meeting.
Well, this was the south in July. It was hot and humid under that tent. No wind a blowin’, and not a leaf stirring. Leroy sneaks in at the back and sits down.
Well cousin Melvin was preachin’ up a storm. People were getting caught up in the spirit, left and right. Next thing ya’ know they would come on down to the alter to confess their sins’ out loud, unburden their souls.
Well after a spell, all of a sudden, Leroy gets caught up in the spirit. By this time everyone that was gonna’ confess had pretty much done so.
When Leroy starts heading down the aisle, folks took notice, and how.
So Leroy gets to the alter and Bro’ Melvin exhorts him “tell it all brother, lay your sins at the alter, tell it all to Jesus”
So Leroy does. He faces the congregation, gets down on his knees and confesses for close to an hour. Babies are crying, women are fainting, even men start to faint. Leroy gets it all off his chest and then gets up beaming, then gets up and faces the congregation.
By this time Melvin is in shock, using the alter for support, bathed in sweat and as white as a “Monday” can get. He looks at Leroy, and sez’
“Leroy I don’t know if I’d told all that!”
So with that in mind……….
I think It was around 2012 or 2014 that I get a PM here on 24hour. The guy that sent the PM mentioned that he liked my pictures and stories, and would like to make me a knife. I’d never heard of the guy. He said his name was Ricky Bob Menefee and he was a knife-maker. IIRC he PM’D me a picture of some of his knives.
We palavered’ a bit, and a day or so later I took a few pix of two knives I had and liked, along with how I gripped a knife and dimensions of my palm and PM’d him back

Memory fails me at this point, but in the space of time, Rick sends me my first Menefee.
I don’t know how many of you have ever fished for bass using a Texas Rigged artificial worm.
It has a lead slip sinker at the end of your line just before where the hook is tied with a knot. A plastic worm is threaded onto a hook, then turned over and the hook is embedded in the worm. That makes it where when you drag it over the bottom, the hook don’t catch on the detritus along the bottom. What you do is throw your bait out a ways and let it sink. You wait for a spell then you give your reel a crank and give the tip of your rod a flick so as to make it look to Mr. Bass like dinner. After you give it a crank, you let is sit for just a bit. Then you do the cycle once more. It works particularly well over or near nests.
Anywho, Mr/Mrs. Bass sees this worm and either gets mad or thinks its dinner and mouths the worm. Now folks that are new to this game automatically jerk the rod to set the hook, but they miss. The key is to let the fish run just a bit with the bait in his mouth before you set the hook.
Little did I know at the time, but just like Mr. Bass, I was hooked!

What part of Alabama are you quail hunting in? I'm in lower Alabama and worked at a quail preserve/sporting clays range for a couple years many, many moons ago.
