Dishwashers. What brands are good? What should I stay away from?

Current Kitchenaide is on the fritz. Maybe not even 5 years old. Sheesh.

Get one that's versatile. Did you know that you can convert some dishwashers to lawnmowers?

You might have to start it for her but.....

Get a Miele. These washers are astoundingly better than anything in my experience.

Seriously though, take my wife.

No, I mean it, seriously though, we have a Whirlpool that's 20 years old and still going strong. I'm not sure if they're all good or still good 20 years later, but there you have it.

We have a Bosch - VERY quiet, in fact it projects a red laser light on the floor so a person can tell it's running. Has a third, shallow upper tray that works very well with things like spatulas, tongs, any flatware etc...

That's exactly the experience we had with a top of the line KitchenAid. About five years. Since it just the wife and I we decided not to worry about it and do the dishes by hand. If we ever move or get the urge I'll replace it.
I actually prefer getting the dishes cleaned up and put away. It's no more work than with a dishwasher if you stop and think about it.
Unless you go commercial quality they are all 5 year junk.

Yeah, but one you can buy now won't last that long and that's the problem.
I had a high end Bosch cooktop that lasted about 6 years before quitting. Capacitors went bad.
