Back in the day it was White Castle hamburgers if there were any in the area or Perkin's Restaurant for a plate of "garbage Browns." The former would give you the worst gas you could imagine while both would keep you from getting too far from the toilet.
Convenience store food weren't very desired but the stores weren't as decked out in regards to food as today. If one even stopped it was to grab a Mt Dew, a candy bar, and a handful of gum in an attempt to cover the odor of an alcoholic beverage.
