I believe that Ramshot recommends a magnum primer for their spherical powders, despite what case it's being used in. JB used magnum primers in the 358 Winchester w/ TAC in his much referenced Handloader article on the 358Win & 338Fed. My experience with TAC (using a Federal 215 ) in the 358Win with the Barnes 200 & 180 TTSX bullets was that it was EXTREMELY compressed (JB used the shorter 200 TSX version for his article) and spherical powder doesn't compress well. Two of my cartridges wouldn't chamber due to mid-body bulges, possibly caused by powder over-compression? My velocity with the 200gr TTSX fell short of JB's results by 50-100fps with my lot of powder. Therefore, I came to the conclusion that, for my particular components, TAC is too slow a burn rate. I haven't tried Reloader 7 yet, as others on the Fire have recommended, but have tried RS X-terminator & H4198. X-terminator may still be too slow burning, still requiring compressed loads & H4198 maybe a touch too fast burning but has given great accuracy with good velocity in a 20" Ruger American. I'd like to try Rel 7, H322, & Acc 2015, if I could find them. In today's environment, H4198 is a decent choice, IMO. Mark and Belle

Ramshot does not necessarily recommend magnum primers even in some so called "magnum" cartridges. That being said I have had better results with magnum primers and Ramshot in some cases and in others better with standard primers. Curiously they recommend the Fed 215 for the .458 Win Mag, but a WLR for the larger .458 Lott.

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

What kind of primers are you guys using with TAC in the 358 Win? I tried it but it seemed inconsistent.
Thanks, Dale WLRM and CCI 250. I've had best results in the 308 and 35 Whelen using TAC for full-throttle loads. Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

TAC is the main powder in my 556/223 with 55/50 gr. bullets. Mostly Ballistic Tips in 223, and Hornady SP’s in my AR. And I use CCI 400 primers. Very good accuracy.

Has anyone tried TAC in the 30/06? I have a couple pounds, and I see Ramshot has data showing a max of 55.4 grains of TAC with a 125 grain Nosler ballistic tip for a velocity of 3,292 fps. I was thinking this might be a good flat shooting, mild recoil load. Might not be the best in the wind but probably be pretty good to at least 300 yards.

TAC and Varget are my go-to 308 Powders. I have enough of each to last me the rest of my lifetime.

Has anyone tried TAC in the 30/06?. I tried it last spring with 150 gr Hornadys. Same as with my 358, didn’t get the consistency I was looking for. Tried some 4320 I had on hand and I was much happier. That was using WLR primers. Dale

Bought a couple of pounds to try in a 308 that I was having trouble with. Never got around to it and that rifle is in the process of becoming a 6.5 Manbun. Just loaded up a ladder with it for a 375H&H wth 250gr Hornady CX's. We will see...

I hope you have a decent amount of 4320, it's discontinued.

To the other question on primers for TAC in the .358, I have only used Fed 215, as JB recommended in his article, and have had good results with those. Cheers, Rex

I picked up a pound yesterday to test out in my .223. We shall see how it does in the coming weeks. I’m just waiting on the ice to melt at the range before I return, it was slick last weekend.

I use TAC in several of the cartridges already mentioned here, including the .223 Remington, and .30-30, .308 and .358 Winchester. But it's also pretty much my standard powder in the .204 Ruger and the wildcat 9.3 Barsness-Sisk that Charlie and I developed--partly because back when I had a couple of .350 Remington Magnums I found TAC worked great in that cartridge as well. (The 9.3 B-S is the .350 necked up to .366....)

Anyone using TAC in a .223 with 75 gr ELDM?
Load, velocity?
