Our guy Archer is around 10 months now. Everything posted above is true. There seems to be a lot of variability in the breed and even between individual dogs from the same lines.
Our guy is calmer than many, but part of that is that he gets at least one good walk a day and gets some good play time in. He wants to be involved in what you're doing all the time. If you are working on the truck, he'll be right there with you, unless you make him go somewhere else. As a puppy, he couldn't be left alone - he'd freak out and destroy things. He's getting a little better on that, but basically we try not to leave him alone. He has been great with kids, but we are pretty quick to insist that all kids treat the dog right. Anyway, he's a part of the family and sort of a riot.
