What a great pic!!! 80s?
Thanks. Yes that rifle was good to me in the '80s, as were the Montana Unlimited bighorn sheep units...

And it still worked in the '90s with a plastic stock...

I bought my first centerfire rifle in 1967. It was a Herter's .30-06 barreled action that I put in a Herter's semi-inleted stock. I got drafted into the US Army before I really got to use it, then through most of the '70s that rifle kept my freezer full of elk, deer, and antelope meat. In 1978 I had it re-chambered to .30 Gibbs and into the '90s I had some fantastic DIY hunts with that rifle...

I think that some of you fellers have far more money than I do! Looking at some of these rifles makes me think about the “trophy wife” …..they look great but ain’t good for much other than their looks!

Our definition of a “hunting rifle” varies greatly from dome’s vision! I see a “hunting rifle” as a tool, something to use…..not baby when hunting!

I know that I ruffled some feathers, that was not my intention ….merely a poor boys observation! memtb

Maybe you should go to Home Depot and get you some tools…

I hunt with the nice rifles I have. I take care not to beat them up. I have plastic stock rifles for beater or loaner occasionally.

Thanks for the tip Shrap! I do but some tools at Home Depot and other places that provide decent quality tools!

By the way….your recently posted rifle photo showed a good tool. Or, at least the US military thought it was! memtb

Another observation.......

I happen to enjoy "investments that shoot". I rarely buy new or commission customs. Rather I try to buy at 40% to 60% of MSRP.

I find that it is hard to lose by making a profit,

and at which time should I become financially embarrassed or tire of said rifle, it usually is not hard to find someone that it will follow home.

ya!

Someone said: "Life is too short to hunt with an ugly rifle." Although I don't have the finest examples, I am grateful for what I've been blessed with. I do admire those presented in these pages from Shrapnel's older gems to geedubya's newer works of art and all the other fine ones. Thanks for showing them fellers, I for one love to see them!
