Was more my point. A lot of guy's attitudes towards women are created by the way women treat guys. Guys they date, guys they don't. Men don't have "friend zones" - women do etc.

Get divorced and have some chick take you to the cleaners simply because she's a chick and you realize why dudes get abrasive about women. I paid every cent of my child support, on time, and usually more than full (I paid for things I wasn't required to) and yet the courts and females continues to bleed you dry - I don't condone it but I definitely UNDERSTAND why dudes skip out on women.

I have a BS and a masters, but my wife has a BS, MBA, PhD, is a CMA and a CPA (licensed to practice in multiple states.) I have a modest pension and SS. She makes, essentially, as much as she wants. Her regular, 9 months of the year, "day job" income is about 4 times my income. She does as much consulting and developmental work as she want to for which her hourly rate can be north of $500, depending on the nature of the job. She's 17 years younger than I and, like most of the women in her family, is an absolutely gorgeous, blue-eyed blonde. If you were to go to our little hometown and ask around town who the most beautiful girl to ever come out of that town was, she'd be the first one a lot of people would mention. In terms of financial resources/capital, she brought a lot more to this marriage than I did.

If you look at relationships in terms of your two questions above, I don't expect you'll ever understand.

As Rich said in the video, women are hypergamous. In other words they tend to marry men of equal or higher social status and earnings. Studies very but in general, in order for women to find a man "economically attractive" he needs to make 25% to 60% more than her. The more egalitarian the country the more the man has to make. So the U.S comes in around 47% but Norway and Sweden are closer to 60%. One of the most reliable predictors of divorce is when a woman begins making more money than her husband. I worked at a company where 5 young ladies were all promoted to junior management at the same time. Within a year they had all divorced their blue collar husbands. There's larger studies confirming this behavior. This behavior is exacerbated when women have degree's. In Marriage where the wife has a degree, 90% of divorces are filed by the wife.

Of course this doesn't always happen. When we look at large multi factor studies that attempt to predict marital happiness, there's only a few variable that stick out and these tend to be related to emotional stability, especially the mental an emotional stability of the woman. When you consider (depending on the study) 70%-80% of all divorces are filed by women, and the number one reason they give is "I'm unhappy", you can imagine why that matters.

As for the question, is your wife the exception, you have a couple factors in your favor. You mentioned "our little hometown", so you are removed from the competition and craziness of the big city, and Accountants tend to be more emotionally stable that average. You didn't say how old she is, so I don't know if you've survived her Mid-Life Crisis and her "Alpha re-Interest" phase, which typically occurs around the ages of 37 and 45 when they body tells them they have one last chance to diversify the paternity of their offspring before they hit menopause. About 50% happen at this time, so if you've already survived this, she's past 50 and well into the the downhill side of her SMV (Sexual Market Place Value), perhaps you did find the unicorn. But even if you make it past this marker, the longest study I've found on first marriage was a 40 year study, and over it's course, 67% resulted in divorce.
