I’m a big fan. I also have a nickel Model 27 4” and it’s one of my favorites.

If so, why do people pay a premium for 3.5" and 5" 27s?
Not that 4" is bad, just never could understand why 27 fans prefer the 3.5" to the 4". Cool factor?

I have a 4” Model 57 that I’m pretty fond of. Wish I had more 4” N-Frames!
If we live long enough, we all have regrets. But the ones that nag at us the most are the ones in which we know we had a choice.

Yes they make pretty paper weights for guys who don't actually shoot.

I just picked up a 4" blued M/27 no dash, I already have a 4" M/629 no dash. I'm partial to pinned & recessed Smith & Wessons. I've had a few 5" N-frames, Skeeter Skelton was a big proponent of 5" barrels.

I have the same gun, but without the red ramp insert. There seems to have been a big run of 4" nickel 27's in the late 70's. I'd have to take the grip off my gun to see the serial number to look up the date, and I don't feel like getting up to do it But as I recall, it was about '79 or 80, maybe... Personally, I always thought the 3 1/2" barrels just looked kind of odd. Not that I wouldn't gladly take one if it was give to me!

Why do I have to press 1, for English?

The 3.5" Model 27 had a grip frame that was 1/4" shorter than standard. I bought one in the wooden box back in the 90's with a sales slip from the 1970's under the plastic. I read that Gordon Liddy used to carry one when he was FBI. Sold it after a couple of years, having fired it at the range only once and not being inclined to carry it. Nice gun, just not in my lineup.

I've had a few 5" N-frames, Skeeter Skelton was a big proponent of 5" barrels. Skeeter Skelton influenced me to buy a 5" 27 and to have Ahlmans's shorten the barrel on a couple of 624s from 6.5" to 5". Sort of a Goldilocks thing, not too long, not too short, just right (for him). I carry in a cross-draw belt holster, so the longer barrel doesn't hang up like it might in a side carry belt holster. I have a 3.5" 27, bought it 30 years ago, but have never gotten around to shooting it. Actor Dennis Farina carried a 3.5" 27 in his role as Detective Joe Fontana in the Law & Order TV series. Gun guys notice such things.
