Lots of them down low right now so it might be a good crop this year and it's an important food source for the Grizzly bears.

They will be out on those open slopes and basins rolling rocks all day.

That would be cool to see.

It's pretty Kewl.

The bears around here are a bit better behaved, sometimes, and I think it might have something to do with that food source.

Typically early August is prime time and Franc's Peak is a hot spot but on the other side of the Greybull River the top end of Piney Creek might be better.

All hikeable for a guy who posts in the backpacker forum.

Not a bad trip in August.

She’s got a lot of cool pics of some awesome critters. But she’s a shallow [bleep] that needs affirmation for some reason. I’m not one to play armchair psychologist but she’s got some issues lol

GFY you bitchy whiner.

You're cumpulsively posting in this thread. Damn Rick B spellcheck added the U.

This picture shows where both rams were taken across Yellow Creek and is within a mile of the location of the attack.

Some of the kewlist country I have ever hunted.

Gorgeous country for sure. I've got a few hikes planned, but all down here. Didn't draw my elk tag in my favorite area so I'm left with what I can get in the supplemental draw and need to check out a couple of new areas. That and maybe have to get a knee scoped.

The picture in my avatar is on the north slope of Franc's peak and the attack was on the south side.

Lots of quicksand on that flat during the summer.

It's not unusual to see a dozen bears up there in the right few week of the larva hatch.

I won't speak for WY, but in MT they're army cutworms and it's adults the bears feed on before the millers return to lower elevations to lay eggs.

Thanks for posting that.

It's commonly thought, but wrong, here that it is a larvae stage of Army Moth that the Grizzlies are eating. Or at least my dumb azz thought it.

It looks like that's not right and it the adults preparing to lay eggs. That make sense because the bears are rolling rock in daylight to find the treats.

Right now we have a [bleep] load of moths down low and they love to hide in dark places during the day.

Site is a bit "climate" crazy but interesting article about moths and Grizzlies.

Spot on.

I find Burns to be insufferable from time to time, but I don’t understand the attacks he draws from EVERY SINGLE POST. Those pics are of some cool freekin country. Beats the Texas corn flinger pics every day of the week.

Lighten up. Get out of the house.

Added to years of beach and boat diving on Okinowa is decades above timerline and in deserts chasing bears, bulls, bucks, and rams.

I earned it the hard way.

John, you are looking good. I still weigh the same as I did years ago. My chest and arms lost a couple inches off each. No worries. My waist has 'em.

North Carolina Never Do Well checkin in.

4 miles or so from the attack site. Broke that bull down and loaded him up with Grizzly track in the snow.

Bet this looks just like your hunting grounds. grin

Hate to see anyone bear attacked, even a touron from NY. It is open country but that doesn’t mean you can’t get close to a bear without knowing it. Even without being stupid. I’m sure all of us would have done much better. Maybe he was not as observant as he should’ve been. Maybe he did nothing wrong but go for a hike.

My house has enough moths in it to feed 3 large grizzlies for a week. It must be a good moth year. Hope to hell the bears don’t find out about all the moths trapped in here.
