The soap goes on with consistency of shaving cream. With a microfiber sponge it will help keep micro scratches out of paint. Just keep sponge rinsed out with clean water. Not needed but pretty cool.
That video was funny though, I thought the guy might say
"You might not believe this little fellow,
But it will cure your asthma too"
Don't worry, I enjoyed watching it, I'm just a skeptic at heart!

You still have to hand wash. The purpose of the foam cannon is to try and remove as much surface contamination to prevent scratches. In between hand washes I do a couple of foam washes. Helps keep it clean but doesn’t replace hand washing
I have a chemical guys brand one and it has been very good. I use their wash that is designed for this as it foams very well.
I haven't seen any of the detail type videos on Youtube where they used a foam cannon and then just rinsed. They all take a mitt or brush to the car/truck after the foam application. You can use any type of car wash soap in it. I use this Armorall cut 50-50 with water. https://www.target.com/p/armor-all-64oz-ultra-shine-wash-and-wax-automotive-wash

Fight fire, save lives, laugh in the face of danger.
Mine gets washed about once a year whether it needs it or not.
Usually a coat of wax too, if I'm up to the challenge.
Mostly it just gets wiped down during rain showers, as it then gets a free soft water rinse!
