Wondering who has used them, out of any 6mm (243) cartridge, what was your approx. MV, range, shot placement and outcome if you don't mind. What has your accuracy been like?

I have used 70TNT's, 85 BTHP, 85 x, 100 partitions, and 105 amax to kill deer. Just wanting to hear reports on this one particular bullet = the 95 ballistic tip on deer.

Thanks.

Gail Root, Nosler's ballistics guy for many years, designed the 95 Ballistic. Gail was a .243 Winchester FREAK and it was kinda like he designed the bullet for himself. Gail killed boo-coo large mules, a smashing Missouri whitetail, several excellent Oregon bull elk and, I believe, a large Nilgai with the 95.

I've killed a fair number of mulies and a couple of antelope with the 95 Ballistic in the .243 Ackley. It surely has never failed for me and I would use it again in a heartbeat.

I am into the testing phase of this bullet on deer. I have worked up my load and am anxiously awaiting the opening of deer season. I might even try one on a feral hog.

Oh, forgot to ask a question about accuracy if you can chime in on that dimension as well.

Having been a 6BR aholic, and due to the rising cost of powder/bullets, I just happened on some 95BTs for a good price, heard many good things in the past, and thought it might be a good all around load, past load was 70tnt for varmints/paper and 105 amax, which accounted for deer/varmints, one at 400 yds, but I won't take any shot with it due to it's being frangible, and hogs are getting more common in deer woods here. SO, considering changing to 95's, I do like the 105 hitting at 400 yds/ with what the 95 does at 300 yds, energy wise, but bullet construction is very key in the field I realize.

How well the 95's kill and expand at longer ranges with lower speeds I am very interested in, as my BR will hit at about 2,000 at 400 yds. Enough? Mind you I would very rarely encounter such shot, but wondering how far it is capable-2950 in 26" bbl is my est. speed as 105's are doing 2840-2850.

85BTHP was lightning death for my son in a 243, but I feel the 95's will overtake them at long ranges, and assure more penetration if a poor angle is encountered.

Thanks to all incoming replies.

It's the only bullet we use on deer from our 243. Perfect results every time. I don't know how it would work out of a 240 Weatherby or a 6-06, but it's fantastic at 243 velocities. Accuracy is always sub MOA.

My "go to" medium game bullet in the .243" bores is the 95 grain Partition. I like the fact that the 95 grain BT shoots to the same appoximate POA and is a less expensive alternative for coyotes, but the Partition always penetrates and always expands, which I think is particularly important when using a smaller bore bullet.

Although I like BTs and have never lost a deer because I was shooting them, I really prefer the Partitions or ABs in my .224", .243", and .257" rifles if there is a Partition or AB that is a good match, size wise, for the cartridge and rifle in question.

Jeff, my first deer killed with a 6mm ctg was a 243, about 30 yds in woods, 100 PT, ran about same distance and showed no signs of being hit. I don't argue the logic, but I have seen some lightning kills with bullets that shed energy when expanding faster and having larger wound channel.
Have heard some prefer the 95 PT more than the 100 PT as they say it often is more accurate. Also heard the 95 BT often exits so like to here what you have seen on coyotes with it.....exits? DRT kills?

Thanks.

Have used my Ruger 243 Ultra Light with the 95 gr BT on 3 animals. A Sika doe, Fallow doe and a Prognhorn. All bang flops, longest range was the Pronghorn, 73 yards. Muzzle velocity is 2813 fps, does 3/4" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. The bullet was explosive on these animals. On the Pronghorn, I hit him high behind the left shoulder, made a tiny entrance hole, blew a 2 inch section of ribs out, destroyed the back third of the lungs, made a 1 1/2" hole in the off side ribs and exited low behind the right shoulder, was a slight down hill shot angle. All three animals showed massive internal damage with the bullets exiting, which kinda suprised me a little, I figured with a light weight BT and close range the bullet would explode inside the animal and not exit.

65BR-I've been using a 6/06 for many moons now as have several of my buds and the 95 NBT is one of the bullets we've used a ton load.

We run it in and around 3400-3500 depending on tube. It is incredibly accurate and it kills deer/lopes/black bruins extremely well.

It is an absolute terror on yotes and we've even taken some bigger big game with it that I won't mention less someone will get bent out of shape about it.

I'd say get after it, it won't dissapoint you.

Funny on another forum one guy said 'ballistic tips are not game bullets yes they may work, but then again they may blow up on the surface, why risk a wounded animal'

Must be armored deer out there? Have not see that variety yet!

Thanks guys.

I took a good buck with my 7x57 last sunday and this coming friday will be at the lease with the 6MM as my main rifle. Chronied my load of 43.0 grains of AA 4350 which all the manuals say is mild and got just under 3100 fps out of my 24 inch barrel. Wiil try to get my does on the hillside stand where it is normal to get reasonably long shots, around 200 yards.

Before we switched to 7mm-08s, both of my daughters took all of their deer (one apiece) for 8 or 9 years. We switched to 95 grain BTs the year that they came out, and probably took at least four or five with that bullet. Several large desert mule deer took more than one shot in the boiler room to go down, but none got away.

One of my grandsons still uses that rifle (he likes the way the Ruger 77RSI feels) and has taken several Texas whitetails with, but he switched to Partitions a couple of years ago.

I've seen a couple deer shot with the 95 NBT out of the 6mm Rem... all of them went down so hard they bounced. Never seen one fail to exit either, distances ranged from 50ish yards to the far side of 300. They hammer the snot out of coyotes and 'chucks too. ~JT

It's a great bullet. Has performed well on mule deer to around 300 yards for me and my son. Accurate. Penetrates completely and ruins everything in the heart/lung area. Quick kills. Works great on coyotes too, but I'm not hunting them for their hides.

I have only used 100grn NP out of my .243, but I have 4 -one shot kills 3 deer and a Bobcat. The shots ranged from 35-155yrds and all but one deer dropped on the spot, and the one that ran only made it 25-30yrds tops.

It currently groups 1/2-3/4" @100yrds depending on how well I'm shooting that day.

I used to own a .243 WIN in a 1964 Model 70 - you know, the one everyone hates cause they were ugly and didn't shoot good? I bought it NIB in a pawn shop about 6 years ago and kept it one season. It would group the 95 grain Nosler Ballistic-tip in sub MOA three shot groups every time using the max load of IMR4350 from the Nosler #4 manual (I used Win brass, CCI-200 primers, and 41.5 grains of IMR4350). I killed a couple of whitetail with it, one shot at 200 yards, the other at 80 yards. I recovered one bullet, perfect mushroom, it traveled diagonally from the left side of the deer, through the heart, and rolled up under the hide just front of the right rear leg. I sold the 243 to a fellow that wanted one for his son, but it was a great combo. I tried several 100 & 105 grain bullets in the rifle and it hated them, horrible groups (3 & 4 inch groups) - that Nosler 95 is the cats meow in a .243 WIN. Odessa

My departed huntin' bud killed one of his last deer with the 95gr Btip and a M700ADL synthetic in 6mm Remington. IIRC, it was a tad shy of 400 yards (bedded doe, shot from a Harris bipod).

Killed the doe right then and there. If I still owned anything in 243/6mm, that'd be the bullet of choice for deer. He also shot 55gr Btips from the same rifle for woodchucks. As I recall, the 95gr version was even more accurate at 300 yards than the lighter ones were.

He prefered the 80gr Btip in his heavy barrel 6/06 though, for long shots at woodchucks.

If three or more people think you're a dimwit, chances are at least one of them is right.
