I have never had an issue lighting loose pyrodex in a percusion side lock using #11 magnum caps. But I've not tried loose 777 in a side lock. Magnum #11s tend to be pretty hot. Maybe someone else can speak to loose 777 and #11 caps. https://vcdl.org/

I've used both pyrodex and 777 with both magnum and regular #11 caps and never had problems except when leaving the gun loaded for days in inclement weather. But that holds true for any type black or substitute. I have one front stuffer that has a musket cap conversion nipple, and I don't see that it makes a whole lot of difference from # 11 caps. In fact, I doubt that "hot" ignition is an advantage. Could maybe start the projectile moving before the main charge has time to develop pressure? I shifted to flinters, roundballs and black powder in recent years.
