The big brown truck finally delivered my McMillan today so that I could give the custom a new home. It still has to be bedded and then the load developement starts.

Here are the details.
Remington 700 Action, Blueprinted, Lugs Lapped and bolt face squared.

Shoots honest 1" shot groups.




It took a fair bit of work to get the stock to work for a Model 70. The location of the bolt notch and loading port needed to be changed. The grip area needed to be altered to accomodate the longer and flatter Model 70 tang. I also bobbed the forend about 1.5" because it was too long to be in proportion with a 22" barrel. The action screws and the magazine box both needed to be shortened to accommodate the shallower stock. And of course the action bedding area needed to be completely reinletted and filled as needed.

But I prefer the lines of this stock to those that McMillan offer for the Model 70s (the compact excluded), so the project was worth it.
