Dear Camp Firers,

I’m sadden to report to the Camp Fire, doctor encore (Greg age 69) who has been a member since 2007 with 8,700 + posts, passed away from cancer. He fought a long and hard battle after diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Greg was an avid rifleman and hand loader, there wasn’t a rifle he couldn’t get to shoot sub moa, as an avid deer hunter all his life, many deer fell to his rifles accuracy.

Our grandfather started us rabbit hunting at 13 years old, Greg carried Papa’s Marlin hammer 12 ga, I carried an uncle’s Winchester model 42 and other brother carried a Win model 69A .22. We had a blast, brought back 1 rabbit. That was the beginning of Greg’s hunting career, in High School Greg worked for a local sporting goods store, then attended college locally to hunt and work in the sporting goods business. After school Greg spent 25 years as a sales rep for wholesalers/manufactures/Rep Firms for and enjoyed attending the Shot Show. Then he choose another career as was tired of all the traveling. He still maintained and attended shows for select clients. His many years of experience was shared with members of the Camp Fire. Greg had a phase “I read on the Fire”.

He was Scout Master to local Boy Scout Troop 945 for many years teaching and training young men on firearm safety, shooting skills and enjoyment of shooting sports. I assisted him in past years before I moved out of state. These fellows were outstanding Trap shooters with younger eyes and quick reflexes to ink ball targets due to Greg’s coaching. The Scouts are just devastated by the loss of their Scout Master and coach. I know so many Camp Fire members donated funds, ammo and scopes to his scouts over the years. I want to let you know how much Greg and the boys appreciated your kindness.

I was touched by Greg’s classified post and how CF’ers stepped up to help, you guys are so wonderful.

The Camp Fire is a busy forum, I’m sure many interacted with Greg over the years as he touched many of you as well and many others knew Greg in all his endeavors. You all were “family” to Greg, thank you. Everyone is just so shocked how quickly the cancer spread and over took is ability to fight it. Greg will be missed by the Camp Fire, Boy Scouts, and his family and is survived by his wife and son and two brothers.

God Speed, Greg. May those you left behind find peace.
