That guy has been in a lot of movies.

Yep. He was a great character actor. Also played the bad guy bookie “Gus” in “The Natural”

Wikipedia lists over a 180 film and tv credits in his long career.
His last acting credit was a 2 episode guest spot on “The X- Files. “

Grew up watching it and the only episode that stuck was the Spanish moss monster.

LOL !
Rockford and Magnum are my two favorites of all the old shows from that era.
I swear Rockford got knocked out at least once per episode. Sometimes twice. 🤪

There were two Darren McGavin made for tv movies called The Night Stalker and the Night Strangler before Kolchak.

The Night Stalker movie starring McGavin was a really good made for TV movie. That was back when vampires were still creepy and scary. Current depictions of vampires in tv and movies are more of a threat to try and bang your girlfriend than actually kill anyone.

And yes, I watched the original series even though it got pretty campy at times. I was 9 years old and we only had 3 channels back in those days. We kids got our supernatural thrills where we could.

Yes, I liked it then as a child... but it's a very distant memory... Probably bore me to tears now...

I loved the show.
1974 was about when I really started hard into print journalism. I had a 110 camera and a Panasonic cassette recorder.
Kolchak gave me the idea of recording interviews instead of just taking notes.

. . . oh yeah, and I owned a seersucker suit and a straw hat, but didn't use them when I was working.

That show was a good introduction to Darren Mcgavin, and how good a character actor he was. I believe he was best as Ralphie’s father in “Christmas Story”..
