The books finally showed up today--in time so mail out the first 50 pre-orders. We'll be getting the rest on the way over the next day or two.

Thanks for everybody's patience. They were supposed to be here 9 days ago, but between the weather and other shipping delays... The driver who delivered him says there's a shortage of drivers in his particular company, which he claims is partly due to younger guys not wanting to get into it. (He's 57.)

There’s secret codes and schitt in the first three you need to learn to interpret the latest one.

I should mention (or "re-mention") that this one is titled The Little Book of Rifle Loads That Work. That's because the other three are Big Books of Gun Gack--about the size of a Gun Digest Annual, with 400+ pages. Gack 4 is only 269 pages....

OldPineC : looking at the table of contents on the website, there’s no mention of the 338 Ruger Short PRC. Also, the Only 375 is the H&H.

I guess we’ll just have to apply the Rules and Muddle through …

We have shipped all the pre-publication orders that were ONLY for GG4, but there are approximately 50 orders which include other books. Due to the local, little-bitty post office being closed tomorrow and Saturday, we'll be getting out the extra-book orders on the way on on Monday.

Thanks again to all who ordered--and your patience!

Ward,

ALL the orders for single copies have been shipped. Right now we're down to the orders for multiple copies, or include other books, or are for other countries than the U.S. Those should also go out tomorrow.

My copy arrived today. Good thing too, I was getting tired of sitting out by the mail box. Dogs were trying to piss on me, not to mention the funny looks from the neighbors.

Do I need to sign for my GG4 package?

I keep getting emails from FedEx that I have a package I need to sign for. I have no packages coming other than GG4, and I do not know how GG4 was shipped.

We lived in a tiny town near Lewistown in the late 1980s. A UPS truck went off the road and flipped between our town and Lewistown--and it contained a BUNCH of skunk "cover-scent" a local sporting goods store had ordered.....

Don't know where you saw that--though the first printing's arrival was delayed by nine days, due to the trucking shortage that seems to be affecting a lot of the country, plus some earlier-than-usual winter weather. Our printer loaded the order on a truck on October 28, which as supposed to arrive her on November 1st--but they didn't arrive until the 9th. We have shipped close to half of them, but there are definitely some left!

Mule Deer, I started reading mine this afternoon while sitting with my wife who is recovering from a hip replacement. It’s an easy read and I’m enjoying it a bunch. Makes passing the time educational.

I’m reading mine - the chapter on the 30-06 - and JB is recounting a discussion with another hunter about the “caliber” (30-06) of his rifle. Good stuff.

That was actually suggested by more than one Campfire member, which made sense!

I got my copy yesterday. I’ve been spending hours reading, especially the pages that pertain to all the cartridges that I reload for myself and for my “friend”who lives down the road. Thanks for your work on the book.

If you ordered off the website, you can PM me your name, address and order number and Eileen can provide a tracking number.

A woman from Washington state called yesterday, who was worried about the copy she ordered, because it needed to be there by Wednesday, the 23rd. Eileen looked up the tracking number, which said it was expected to arrive on Monday.

The predicted time of arrival with the standard media-mail shipping we include in the prices listed on www.riflesandrecipes.com is generally accurate. But it of course also depends on when the book was mailed, and there were so many pre-orders that it took 4-1/2 days to package and ship them. And of course the farther the book's destination from Montana the longer it takes.

Loads that work, reloading manuals are full of listed loads but Nosler takes it to a higher level and tells you their most accurate powder charge for each powder as well as their best load powder wise for each cartridge. Then comes JB with GG 4 who gets right down to the nitty gritty. No guessing on what powders to start with, read what he says and save the price of the book the first time you don't have to guess at what powder to try first. Saves a lot of money this day and age of damn expensive components. Then of course if you call in your order you get to talk to leanie and she is allways nice to talk too...mb

Got mine.
Started with THE 270, the 375 H&H, the 9.3-62, and then the 17 Hornet.

Mine showed today. Mostly I have interest in 243win, 30-06, and 375h&h. Then I found the 30-40 Krag section. Good grief, I wan that 30-40 single shot.

Got mine Saturday, love it, can't wait to try some of the new powders and loads. Load intro is worth the price of the book. Thanks JB

Oh, the 7x64 is there--but the data's hidden inside the data for the "other" 7x64--the .280 Remington!

My copy arrived today! Awesome idea to print the cartridge type on the page edge. I can thumb thru quickly to index what I need. Thank You John for another great GG book. Is your wrist tired from signing books?

Glad you're liking GG4!

Printing the cartridge on the edge of the page was Eileen's idea. Of course, she knows rifle loonies....

My right-hand/wrist did get a little weary signing books last week, when we were taking batches of 50 to the P.O., sometimes three times a day. But it's OK now. (The big problem is my right knee, which I twisted a little while stalking and dragging out a mule deer last Thursday, but it's also getting better--perhaps enough to go after another deer later today....)

GG IV and RLN arrived the same day via two different mailing systems. Great stuff!
One question, though: Page 112 in GG IV says, "The 6.5 PRC's first animal was this mule deer, a 2 1/2 year old buck with stunted antlers, which tasted great!" confused The question is, how did you prepare the antlers? Braising would seem the logical way, but Dad taught us that antlers make poor gravy, so...
Inquiring minds want to know. laugh

Ha! (But you apparently need to Google "subordinate clause" as applied to the English language.)

My copy came a couple of days ago. Just in time as I got in two days of deer hunting before a bout with the flu has sidelined me. I went right to the 250 Savage data as I just took possession of my latest build in this classic of deer calibers. I second the great idea of putting the cartridge designation on the side of the page. My hats off to Eileen and excellent idea.
I was a bit surprised to see no data for either the 22/250 or 250/3000 and H380 though.

Eileen reminded me that she did the same thing in her big game cookbook Slice of the Wild, but of course the tabs were different: Field to Gambrel, Gambrel to Table, and rather than separating elk from deer, or deer from antelope she set tabs for Tender, Tougher, Stew and Burger, Grill, Fry, Cover & Cook. Three tabs per recipe page, and her favorite tab—Rogue’s Gallery. That’s photos of individual game animals we took, with details on weather, how we handled them, how they tasted.

She wanted an assortment of conditions and animals, and had a lot of fun looking through our photo files remembering those hunts, and dinners, including the time she killed a nice tender muley buck and it froze overnight. Lots of details on what can go wrong and what you can and can’t control and how the cook deals with it.

Ha, indeed. I can't even spell "subordinate clause". (Claws, Claus, clahz,...) Just because you don't want to share the recipe.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving, sir.

Dunno what's next. Am turning 70 next week and recently took another major step toward retirement--which have been doing for the past few years. (My "retirement" technique reminds me a lot of the old Johnny Cash song "One Piece at a Time," where a guy builds himself a Cadillac with parts brought home from the factory over a number of years....)

But as one of my older writer friends, the late Charlie Waterman, once said: "Old writers never retire, they just write less." When Charlie passed away in his early 90s he was still writing at least one monthly magazine column....

Happy Birthday a little early John. I just turned 70 myself the end of October and have been easing into full time retirement for several years. It's a great time to be alive, upright and taking nourishment. Enjoy your special day and welcome to a new decade. I'm enjoying GG4 very much thank you for all your efforts.
