When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Handloads: Hornady 180gr Interlocks over 37.5 gr of Imr4895 for the 99 "F" in a 300 Sav. and Rem 100gr Corelokts over 33.5 gr of Imr4895 in the Model 1920 bored for a 250-3000. ( During our muzzleloader seasons it's Hornady HP-XTPs pushed along by 100 gr over Triple Seven in my little Knight. ) Ya, I like Hornady bullets for deer, plain and simple. Nothing loaded hot all for accuracy! Best of luck to all starting their hunts tomorrow!

Mike....
All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

100gr Silvertip in the 250 99A has scored this year , so I retired it for the year. Next up is the 99F in 300 with 180gr Remington Core-Lokt. My 99A in 243 is my morning gun as it does not have a scope on it , it will be shooting Federal 80gr Power-Shok. I really feel bad about using these factory loads but I have not done any handloading in over a year , since the wife & I had the new house built. No getting around it I am going to have to build a shop !

200 gr Power points in the 375 Win and 150 gr core lokts in the 35 Rem 170. I'd use the 200 gr LeverEvolutions but dang they kick like a mule and you don't really need 200 grs even for Canadian whitetails.

Not a 99 this year. M1920 250-3000, 87 grain Hornady spire point in front of 34.5 grains IMR 4320. 250 grain Hornady XTP in front of 47 grains IMR 4227 out of my Savage 10ML II.

Until I can find a better load, I have handloaded 20 roounds of .300 Savage consisting of 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip Bullets on top of 40.0 grains of IMR3031 I purchased in 2002 sparked by a standard Winchester large rifle primer in "accurized " Winchester cartridge cases.
Back in 2002 when I chronographed it, here's the results of a 5 shot group using Winchester primers: 2646, 2636, 2638, 2648 & 2653 (Avg. 2644 fps.) Std. Deviation: 17 fps. (+9 fps., -8 fps.)
Accuracy of the 5 shot group = .466 inches @ 50 yards with 2 shots going into .216 inches.

190gr. cast in the .30WCF. It's sighted in with 170 Silvertips right now, hope to find time to run up some cast bullet loads though. Got almost a month yet. 60gr. Buffalo's, or 70gr. Hornady's in the HiPower. 165gr. Sierra HPBT's in the .300 M20 if I go down the list that far!
