4831 ..... both versions for 130gr and 140gr pills. If you can get your hands on RL26 ..... with 150gr partitions.... great load.... don't even have to try hard to get 2950 - 3000 fps and 1 MOA .
Gonna do some work with RL16 and RL23 this winter.... we shall see.

Now with RL26 and 150's it is on the heels of the 270 wby mag. I also like the 130 ttsx or 129 lrx with imr 4350 or the 110 versions with a max load of varget.

Ever since there was a .270. JOC made it famous. And it was the gold standard forever, until the new powders showed up. It’s still a good choice, especially with 130’s. I’m an RL-26 fan, just haven’t tried it in the .270. Reportedly it’s a great choice with heavier bullets. May want faster twist with heavies. DF

Actually the .270 roll out in 1923 predated 4350 which predated 4831, at least commercial availability.
Wonder what reloading rifle powder was available in 1923?
Or, wonder how long before people started reloading it?

DF 1:8 twist barrels is at the smith's right now getting turned into a 270WCF. Hope to get it back in the next couple of months. Have some 160gr NP's, 170gr BT's and 180gr Woodleigh's on the shelf. Would like to find some 170gr Berger's and 150gr TSX's..

Lots of suitable powders for the.270. However, my experience suggested slower powders work best. The 4350's, 4831's and others in that range. I have not been able to try R26 extensively, but it's looking good too.

If I had a fast twist .270, wanting to shoot heavies, RL-26 would be on my short list of powders to try.

Have not even got that far yet. Have over 16lbs of Rel 26, and good supply of Ramshot Magnum. Thinking that might be a good place to start.
Open to suggestions.

Open to suggestions. Those two would be on my short list. I have a big jug of each. Good stuff to have this day and age. DF

With all the talk of RL26 in this thread my question is:
Has anybody been able to find any to purchase recently?
I haven’t seen a canister of it in nearly 2 years at any LGS.
I love the stuff too! Shooting 140 Accubonds at nearly 3200 in my 270. I’m down to my last pound of it and starting to get a little nervous.🥴 Would love to pick up another couple pounds of it…..🙁

It’s not the only one that’s scarce.
Hope things improve.

I may dance to a little different drummer than most but my favorite is also IMR4064 with a 130 grain bullet. It may give up a bit of velocity but the deer don't seem to care. Good Luck, Rick My Dad has been loading 46.0gr of IMR4064 with a 130 for nearly 50 years. It's more accurate than anything I've produced with 4350.

DF Lots of powders are in scarce supply. The goods ones seem to be unobtanium. Bought mine when Trump was in office, before the Covid craziness started. Have burned up a bunch of Varget in my new 338-06 and 416 Remington Mag. Would like to restock, but am saving what I have left for a future Africa sojourn.

I've had good results in a Rem 783 and 129LRX with RS Hunter. Tried Accurate MagPro but accuracy was very poor. In a Winchester XPR, I settled on Superformance & Hornady 130 GMX. If I had more large rifle primers I'd be experimenting with Re23, RS Magnum, 4831SC, & 7828SSC. But LR primers are unobtainium... Mark and Belle
