I haven’t seen a canister of it in nearly 2 years at any LGS.

I love the stuff too! Shooting 140 Accubonds at nearly 3200 in my 270. I’m down to my last pound of it and starting to get a little nervous.🥴
Would love to pick up another couple pounds of it…..🙁

Lots of powders are in scarce supply. The goods ones seem to be unobtanium. Bought mine when Trump was in office, before the Covid craziness started.

Have burned up a bunch of Varget in my new 338-06 and 416 Remington Mag. Would like to restock, but am saving what I have left for a future Africa sojourn.
Have you tried 4064 in your .416 Rem? Swift factory ammo uses 4064. Got the from Bill Hober, Swift CEO.

So, Any favorite powders for this cartridge?

Staying on point with the 130g Hornady, H4350 is my first choice (last I looked it was available), with H4831 close behind (it's available). As mentioned it takes a more H4831 than H4350 to obtain the same velocity, usually the same accuracy.

The H's are more temp stable than the IMR versions in the 270, I have cold weather tested 8-9 different powders with 150's and 130's in a variety of 270's and the H powders have always been the most stable. More stable than RL26 too, but it's stable enough to be confident it'll shoot to the same place.

For the 160 NP, IMR7977 works great for one 270 I have a load for (Yeah I know, fat lotta good that does with the discontinuation of the Enduron powders). I have killed three elk with that load, two of them through both shoulders of rag horn bulls at 50-60 yds. On both occasions the bulls turned and ran towards me and I shot them again, and did catch one bullet in the opposite quarter.

Also the 160 NP shot flatter than the ballistic calculators predicted. Based on my shooting out to 400 yds I speculate the advertised BC may be conservative.

Interestingly, IMR7977 wasn't worth a hoot with 150g NP's in two of my 270's--slightly slower than H4831 and not as accurate.

Have not, used my last 4064 messing around with my 338-06's. Of course it is unobtainium also after a cursory look.

My remaining 4064 is dedicated to my Bud’s .416 Rem. He doesn’t shoot it that much.
