This. Resorts vs general public are two different things. I'm going to Jamaica next week with my wife. We won't be leaving our high end resort. Only going because it is a conference. Completely paid for by one of our suppliers. I have an uncle who is in and out of Jamaica all the time for work. He has been my source of information on what is and isn't safe. On the flip side, I've had more than one bartender complain about how people get killed everyday up in the hills with machetes and the police do nothing........ but if they rob a tourist the police take the into the jungle and shoot them twice and the chest. No trial. Works for me.

The last time I was there was over 12 years ago and you couldn’t venture out past the walls of the resort you were in or the marina you docked at. I said I would never have a reason to go back to that festering dump.
