Biggest complaint I've heard is how cold you get waiting for it to drain (forever). And the eventual leaks. Guess you can do a two-fer and open door while water still draining to minimize being cold.
I think they aren’t a good idea. If your old and have to wait for the damned water to drain out doesn’t sound like a winner. I think a whirlpool bathtub would be better.
It kind of defeats the purpose. Most people get them because they can't get out of a whirlpool tub without assistance. My dad and mom just had a walk in installed about three months ago and they love it. To the original question, they take no longer to fill than a standard tub.
Know fat, know flavor. No fat, no flavor.
I tried going vegan, but then realized it was a big missed steak.
Depends on your water pressure and the size of the tub, but most mixing valves are preset to 1.4 gal/min.
Sitting in these stupid things waiting for it to fill, then sitting in there freezing your ass off while it empties is just plain stupid.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.

Not sure where you got the 1.4GPM figure, but even shower heads and lav faucets flow more than that. Tub only faucets, think master bath whirlpool, often have faucets capable of +15GPM.
As to draining a walk-in tub, most have discharge pumps on the drain outlet to speed up the process.

Been doing this a long time.
Since about 1994 water flow rates have been averaging 2.2-2.5 gal/min. Many manufactures now set their flow rate according to CA standards which is around 1.4.
You can of course ( outside CA) install a mixing valve that delivers more water, but 15 gal/min is not going to happen. Most homes with city water are equipped with pressure and flow control regulators at the main.

I have one. I am 83 and 70% disabled, back issues, cannot stand alone, overweight too. Filling and draining are not much of a problem. Should have gotten it with a shower capability. I like the massage and water therapy options. Walk in shower for handicapped would have done me but wife wanted a tub.
F uck a tub! I just spent $15,000.00 remodeling my bathroom which includes a tiled walk in shower which I’ve enjoyed greatly! I haven’t had my ass in a tub since joining the military in 1958. I’ll be 83 come 25th March and don’t intend to ever smell akin to cat piss! I hate thise sneaky bastards!
