Who knew putting in a new line was so difficult? Get around my dad if you want to make something simple turn very complicated. Think engineer for a federal government contractor.

4 to 6 inches more drop would be good.
Pvc drop would be a bonus .
A bonus I need after all the jakked up schit I have encountered since starting.
To easy to pick axe some more depth to a cut in a pvc drop .
Stuff a rag in it.
Pick axe the slope , shovel it out.
Tamp the schit outta the clay bottom
Bed it with sand tamped
Bed pipe sides
Sand or gravel??
Get pipe hooked up.
Back fill it right.
Gotta keep on digging 1st... 10 Gauge is giving good advice. Spot on. Don't use sand. Only use small stone/gravel as back fill on all sides of the pipe. Remember you are confined to certain angles when working with pipe fittings. 22.5°, 45°, 60°, 90°... If you shorten the slope you'll probably have to lengthen the run. Ferncos are your friends  . Probably easier to expose the pipe, cut it out of there and then dig. Why keep digging around the pipe.?.? Solvent coupler at the house end, couple of fittings and a fernco at the street end.
I sure could go for some $2.50/gal gas and a mean tweet!

I think fernco at house, iron pipe coming out of foundation. Possibly one at the drop if that's clay or iron. Glue joints in between. Anything longer than his stated 55' and I would have a clean out near foundation and one stubbed up out near the road.

Or if the main is a fair amount deeper than the service you won't need to actually be at the tap. Especially if the have a piece a few feet long at a 45°. Buzz a foot off of that 45° piece, glue another 45 female to female on if it is pvc or use a fernco for the transition if it is clay or iron. or the main could be in the middle of the street or even the other side .

Please forgive the C wire scar on the bridge of my nose.
All part of a job from chapter 2 of my life.
Chapter 3 now and don't have to do things like cut a breach into a trench during a live fire as some young team leader did long ago...

Yes it hurt like heck..
And I was a bloody mess.
But homies Team got the breach open and accomplished their intial task.
Then Homie got the platoon Doc to hook him up during the AAR.
Homies platoon buddies had a good time in a bantering way joking and talking about young homie cutting C wire bleeding all over the place, leaving a blood trail of progress and continuing on with his team's task.
Homies 3 team members got feces talking rights in many ways from it all also.
