I love John prine and Townes van zant. Please tell me about guys not well known
If you like Townes Van Zant, you've probably heard of his buddy Blaze Foley. If not, you should check him out, pretty good singer/ song writer.
Lots of more recent singers that are good that dont get mainstream radio play. Hank Williams III, Tyler Childers, Zach Bryan, Sturgill Simpson, Wyatt Flores, Whitey Morgan and the 78s, Turnpike Troubadours, and Jason Boland are some of my faves.
To me, Don Williams, although somewhat famous, was the most underrated country singer of all time. Never got the awards he deserved. Had a ton of hit songs...
The boys are playing as “Reckless Kelly” and “Micky and the Motorcars”.
Plus 1 on the Braun family. We lived in Challis, Idaho, in the 1980's and 1990's. The Braun family lived upriver past Clayton. The boys have done well with their music. Excellent songwriters.
"Full time night woman? I never could find no tracks on a woman's heart. I packed me a squaw for ten year, Pilgrim. Cheyenne, she were, and the meanest bitch that ever balled for beads."
Saw his band 10 years ago or so. Funny guy, was an animal handler at a circus or some such nonsense before getting into music.
They had an exotic animal farm.

"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.”
Roy Acuff Jr. The son of Roy Acuff of country and bluegrass music. I have an album of his somewhere. kwg
Roy Acuff, Jr. Biography by AllMusic b. Roy Neill Acuff, 25 July 1943, Nashville, Tennessee, USA. The son of Roy Acuff, at times during his childhood, Roy Jnr. saw little of his father owing to his touring commitments. Initially showing little interest in music, he began to work in the offices at Acuff-Rose Music but in 1963, unbeknown to his father, he learned to sing and play the guitar. In 1965, he was given the opportunity to record for Columbia Records by Wesley Rose and a month later his father introduced him on the Grand Ole Opry. He played various venues in the USA and even toured US military bases in Germany. Occasionally he appeared with his father and in the early 70s, he sang backing vocals on some of his recordings. However, audiences made him nervous and he never enjoyed performing. He was much happier working behind the scenes and by the mid-70s, he had retired as a performer to become an executive of Acuff-Rose. During his brief recording career, he wrote and recorded several of his own songs including ‘Back Down To Atlanta’ and ‘Street Singer’.

mischei; Good afternoon, I hope that the day in your portion of Oklahoma is behaving and you're well.
Some respondents have already mentioned Corb Lund, so here's one of his l like. His music is sorta Alberta oilfield/ranch music truly, not exactly country.
Hayes Carll has also been mentioned, here's one that he helped Corb Lund write.
Colter Wall is the son of the former Premier of Saskatchewan and has a unique voice and style.
Anyways, a couple from the "not so commonly heard" group perhaps?
