Good afternoon to you sir, I hope that you and your fine family are well and you're getting the weather you need for crops and livestock.

I'm cognizant you've asked about .38Spl revolvers Jim, but the most accurate revolver I've owned or shot was a 6½" Blackhawk I bought in '81.

With it we'd plink rocks the size of grapefruit on the banks of the dugout which were about 100yds away. A friend of the cousin we farmed with expressed doubt and I showed him I could hit a blank sheet of paper - regular copy paper - 5 out of 6 shots at 100yds regularly.

Somehow I thought I wanted to get into PPC or some kind of action shooting, so I sold it and bought a Security Six.



It's okay Jim and runs flawlessly, but I've never been able to hit with it quite as well as the Blackhawk.

Over the years I've shot and handled a couple other Security Sixes and have handled a GP100 too - again they're all not strictly .38Spl, but seem to shoot them fine enough to have fun and learn some good handgun shooting habits.

This wears a different set of grips now, but it is a pretty bad MF when it gets fed target loads. Bull barrel FTW (at least I think it's a bull barrel, I'm not a S&W guru)

+1 for the SW model 15-1, mines a 4" bbl, good shooter

My choice for target and plinking. Model 14

Brother, you ain't kidding. I bought mine new in mid-1965. Still shoots like a fine target revolver. I think Ill keep it.

What's good in a short barreled new 38, Rugger LCR perhaps?

My buddy inherited a lovely 38 revolver. 6 inch blued, at least 60 years old, DA, action like a fine watch.

I do not remember the model designation, but it has a prancing pony on the side.

Yes, I am a bit jealous. Even though I avoid 35 calibers like the plague.

Ruger GP-100 or 101 or the RIA M206 which will need a trigger job.

Of course, if you have a nice pre-82 S&W Model 19 with a six inch barrel, you have something just as nice a target .38 as is a Model 14 S&W, but one that can also shoot .357 Magnum.

The S&W PC 327, for CCW defensive revolver nothing else comes remotely close to that. Easy to carry and there is no need for long barrel when using .38 Special or .38 Special +P loads. Wait for a good used one for about $1000, give or take.

Its wonky look is enough to kill an attacker all by itself.
