Curious. Is there a nutritional difference between cuts on alfalfa. Also how many cuttings do you get in you area, Tikkanut?

Normally...3 cuts

This summer

Have fresh alfalfa seed planted

So it will be mid August (guessing) for 1st cut

Maybe squeeze 2nd cut of late September

Watering the hell outta it with our free unrestricted water usage

Dam quits spilling....canal company keeps track of your water usage after that

Not metered.......they count sprinkler heads....

40 heads running 6 GPM at 24 hrs x 10 days

You do the math............

Haven't seen hay prices yet.

But at the Co-op farm store I recently paid $11 for a friggen 3 wire bale of straw.

$11 a bale for a waste product.

Sheesh and double sheesh.........................LGB

Decent grass hay is $80 for a 1250lb +- bale here.

It's turned off hot and dry. Again. Made a good first cutting, but nothing is growing now.

$75 per 5x5 bale is selling, see it advertised up to $125 but those aren’t selling yet. We are getting 1-2 bales per acre. A normal year is 5-6. A lot of good momma cows are headed to market if we don’t get a rain.

Yeah, it's imported from somewhere.

The folks around here are just getting their first cuts baled up, grass hay and alfalfa. And I'm pretty sure some of the folks that cut a 10 days to 2 weeks ago might have lost some on the ground in the rain trying to get a jump on things. The recent cuts are getting turned, a couple of fields were baled as I saw on the way to town today.

Cold rainy weather lately for here, nearly froze last night, 36F on the back porch this morning with 99% humidity, which ain't normal in these parts.
