Is there still one that doesn't suck? Somebody told me the Brazilian Tramontina is actually cheap and good. I bought 2 plus paid an upgrade (6 dollars) to get the handles fitted and the blade sharpened. I will update when I get them but until then, is there a manufacturer that still makes one that won't bend when you hit a limb with it?
I sorely needed one on my last trip trying to break trail to get to water so I could fly fish last week. I had a Gerber Kukri but a limb bent the piss out of it a few years ago and I think if I ground it out, it would break upon use.

Trams are good. I would have spent my $6 on a good file and sharpened it myself. You will need to sharpen it fairly often anyway. Imacasa is a good brand too. Basically anything made in Brazil or South America, rather than China.

get yourself one of these and some extra blades. Sell the machetes to someone for what you can get out of them. https://theforestrystore.com/products/clearing-axe-29

Meh, 6 bucks ain't much to have someone make it usable. I know the ones made in the jungles of PI are pretty danged good but by the time they get here, they are way too much money. I think they make them out of truck springs.

I'm not kidding about the brush axe.
We carried them clearing our way thru streams and creeks in the rainforest of NorCal so we could do our surveys. Much better than a machete.

I have a Tram what I call a cane knife. Comes in handy cutting the picos off cedar post and staves. Carry it with me every day in the mule.

Where are those made now Mike? I noticed a bunch of their other products are made in China now, not in their home country as they used to be. One could always go all American for a similar brush axe:and spend a good bit more $$$ https://www.woodmanspal.com/product/woodmans-pal-tool/

You remember the Harbor Freight catalogs that would come out with all the knives for sale?
Those were cool.
It's was always a good time for a 8 year old when the HF and JC Whitney catalogs came out.
