I joined in '76 and was ready to get out long before my first hitch was up, and I was gone at the first opportunity. Looking back, I just wish I'd appreciated the fun I was having at the time...I just didn't know it. when the day came I would have had my twenty in, I couldn't believe how quickly the time passed and I never stopped kicking myself in the ass for that.
One thing I KNOW, I could never have continued to serve when political correctness began to dominate the armed services.
To have enlisted and retired as an O-6 is pretty remarkable. Congrats...and now go forth and enjoy life. Just don't get comfortable with living without a purpose because it cannot be done for long. A man's got to have a sense of purpose or his heart will stop beating.
Don't be the darkness.
America will perish while those who should be standing guard are satisfying their lusts.

Good day everyone,
So, after 40 years of continuous active duty service...today ends my terminal leave. I am officially on the retired rolls tomorrow. Enlisted in 82, made chief in 95, was commissioned an ensign in 98 and retired as an O6. It's been an honor to serve alongside the youth of America during every decade that I served.
Despite the meme's online, your military is a representation of society, the good and bad. For the most part, you have people who go well beyond expectations doing what is right for the Nation. We've had good times in bad places, and bad times too. You really gain a close family when in the service, that is loyal and honorable.
For those that are still active, stay motivated, the retirement seems awesome so far...everyday is Saturday, and I wake up now at 0430...because I want to walk the dog and spend quality time with her...not because the alarm clock is mocking me to get up...I no longer set an alarm.
-John God bless you.

How in the world did you manage to stay in for 40 years?
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

Thank you LeakyWader (John). I know that you will enjoy retirement and hope that you have the good health to do so. When I retired, my job became executive chef for the wife and spoiler of grandchildren! Your sacrifice and that of your family is very much appreciated.

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

Congratulations, and thank you for your service! Enjoy your retirement!
Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Congratulations...
What are your plans next?
If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.
