I have always like #4 type for quick acquisition. It replaced a fixed 6x #4 Burris I just should not bring myself to replace for a long time. I found I like heading out at 3-4x these days.

A #4 type with the thick parts coming in close to center is all right. With wide spacing, what's the use?

100% agree, and I would include a duplex with the #4.

And why not make the thick parts fairly heavy?

The wide thin reticles that seem to be offered so much by scope makers these days makes no sense to me whatsoever.

At least give us a choice between the two, but no.
