I perhaps should have been clearer, what I meant was,

It's always entertaining being told how it was then from someone that wasn't there

I work with a couple guys that are 27 and 32 years old.
I swear to God, I try to wrap my brain around what has become of America.
The 27 year old lives at home with his divorced mom, doesn't have a car or a driver's license, smokes a ton of weed and stays up until 2 am playing video games.
The 32 year old lives in a house owned by his parents.
The highlight of his life is watching sports on TV.
Neither have any sort of work ethic
JFC.
I lived such a radically different life than these children.
I'm a Boomer born in 1960.
My parents divorced when I was 12.
I had nothing as a young kid.
I knew from the minute I left the house that it was sink or swim.
I swam hard.
For 10 years I raced motocross.
I had some incredible hot Rods including a a blown Camaro Z-28.
I've hunted nearly every western state and Alaska multiple times.
Owned a half dozen horses.
I tore through two dozen women before I found my current wife.
I've owned 4 houses.
Many vehicles.
I've never been rich, just driven.
I always knew that everything I loved hinged on me being successful at work.
I strived to be the best I could possibly be at my trade.
I can't for the life of me understand these underachieving generations.
It makes me sick to see them wasting their lives.

Are you talking about two kids that work at a grocery store?

Generation Jones is noted for coming of age after a huge swath of their older brothers and sisters in the earlier portion of the Baby Boomer population had; thus, many note that there was a paucity of resources and privileges available to them that were seemingly abundant to older Boomers. Therefore, there is a certain level of bitterness and "jonesing" for the level of doting and affluence granted to older Boomers but denied to them

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Jones

I guess maybe...

Reckon I am a Jones then... Laura too.

Difference is... maybe that I was raised that a man works like a dog his whole life simply because working like a dog is the nature of a man. Fun comes in the work.

I think if I was born earlier... I would have been a mountain man.

I have never understood "Maxing and Relaxing"... Ever.

This sort of causal relationship is in place between all generations. Easy Rider boomers smoked dope and let women behave poorly in order to differentiate themselves from previous generations, subsequent people did similar things to stand out from them. By the time X came around the Overton window had slid enough that smoking dope was just something a most people did and the idea a woman could choose to focus her time on children and her home instead of her next promotion at the office was openly laughed at.

Predictable results:
[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]

Boomers tend to be singled out for this stuff because the full impact of their choices are now affecting generations just coming into adulthood. That and the fact they threw away a stable function society and the greatest global economic conditions of any generation since the Industrial Revolution. That and prior generations generally had some concern for the world they were leaving for their children, but as is obvious from this thread and pretty much all other boomer ones, boomers do not.

Fortunately for the future, with the invention of the WWW people can easily see photo and video evidence of the world the boomers traded for their Good Time and maybe make some changers to head back in that direction.

Ultimately...

Boomers WILL transfer their vast wealth to the next generation...

Unfortunately... those generations will lose that wealth to the Neocons because those generations have virtually no understanding of the value they have received.

Slavery will follow...

Folks get a but too wrapped up in this generational thing.

I don't think named generations existed until the Boomers.
It wasn't a thing, people lived and died.
Then there was this huge post war baby boom...

Talking generations is like talking race, minus the political correc....no, the PC exists
for a certain group if it's their oxbeing gored.

Right now I work with guys from 19 to 64.

Our very best worker grew up laying block with his dad.
He is 63, I don't think his birth year has any bearing on how he works, 3 of his 4
boys are bustin'it too. He is also careful with money and makes smart, reasoned
Decisions.

One of our biggest crybaby, lazy workers is 60.
Born to well off, older, Greatest Generation folks, the Only Kid.
Never allowed to work, played sports.
4th marriage, chases the next material item that might make him happy.
His birth year ? Nope. Not a factor.

That's the trend(s).
How the parents raised the kid.

I don't understand the generational thing. People are people. With on luck those kids will move out of their parent's place and find a chick that has a deed on a nice house.

Thing is we are seeing the rise of the collective, the young have been taught to think in a collective socialist manner.
So the individuals you describe above will no longer have a chance going against the collective.... you cannot deny trends... America is changing, it will no longer be the home of the free

When I start thinking like your post, I look around.

Two girls, 16 and 20, live here. We interact with their friends and the oldest's
fiancée friends.
Kid's in trade schools, nursing schools, trade union apprentices, trade jobs.
I'm impressed as hell with most of them. They have better opportunities than
existed 35 years ago (here).

Where I see dispare is the "Smart" kids.
College bound, enrolled, graduates.
The ones that were the hot Schmidt 35 years ago.
Today, many of them are lazy, indoctrinated, entitled, worthless lumps of mud.

It appears there is some trend toward trades and productive work, less toward
college (especially stupid studies) that is a shining light.

There has to be a tipping point however.
If we haven't crossed it yet, it's gotta be around here somewhere?

I agree. People are starting to see through the "everyone has to go to college" ruse.

I gave it a shot but it wasn't a fit. My oldest son is pretty well decided it isn't for him, and constitution-wise he is pretty much a clone of me so my wife and I agree. The middle son might find it will work for him though.

There is a lot of truth here. The movement started in the sixties with the universities encouraging students to question and reject traditional American values. They were taught everything is acceptable with no limits on behavior. These people used the government education system to indoctrinate the younger generations. It has been three generations now and traditional American values no longer apply. Parents can certainly make a difference but each generation moves further away from independence and self-reliance.

maybe.

may be a vast wealth transfer to medical industry, long term care industry and end of life medicine.

Our town is seeing the building of commercial student housing and commercial residential elder care and memory care buildings.

lots of wealth being transferred there.
