My Dad's 1927 manufactured '94 in .30WCF. (30-30)

Killed my first deer with it in 1966. Have yet to kill anything else with it, but it's my walk-about rifle up here, for the most part.

I killed my first moose with a Marlin 336, now sleeping with the fishes.

Growing up in the shotgun zone of Michigan my first deer gun was a Rem 870 12ga. That single gun has put more meat in the freezer then probally all of my other firearms combined.

My 1st real centerfire that continues to be a regular workhorse is a Ruger M77 MK II stainless in 30-06. It has accounted for my best elk, mule deer and 2nd best whitetail.

My current go-to deer buster is a Kimber Montana in .308. Love the handiness of these rifles.

My first deer was a whitetail doe, shot on the run at about 120 meters with a #1 .303 British SMLE in a "cut down" sporter configuration, shooting CIL Imperial 180 grain Sabre tip ammunition. That was in 1973.
My latest was actually two years ago, a whitetail buck shot offhand at approx 200M, with a Krieghoff Hubertus single shot .30R Blaser and RWS 184 Gr. Evo bullet.
So far in 2023 the closest I've come to shooting a "deer" was a Zimbabwe Impala shot with a .416 Remington Win. M70 Safari, at about 120 M, using a Barnes 400 gr. TSX.

First deer rifle was a No.4 Mk1 Lee Enfield .303 British that my Grandfather "sporterized" with a handsaw, a wood rasp, and some linseed oil. First two were killed in 1971, right after I turned 16. Killed seven bucks with that rifle, and I still have it. Loaded my own ammo using Hornady 150gr Spire Pts and IMR-4895 powder. That rifle will shoot 1.5 to 2 MOA with the factory irons (aperture rear sight).

Most recent is a Browning BAR II Safari Grade in .26-06 with the nicest wood I've ever seen on one of the Safari Grades. Hopefully, I'll blood it this season.

Bring enough gun and know how to use it.

First was an Winchester M1 carbine my great uncle sent home when he got out of the Navy in 1946. The last one I bought was a 1936 Winchester model 71 . Using the model 71 this year for the first time. First deer rifle I personally bought was a Remington 788 carbine in .243 which I still have and hunt with 50 years later.

First: Marlin 336 .30-30 circa 1971 purchased used in 1974 for $50. Added sight through mounts for $8 and Bushnell Banner 1.5-4X scope for $30. Shot a spike, my first WT with it.

Last: PSA PA-10 .308 Gen 3 with Bushnell Elite 3200 SA 3-10x 40mm scope (already had it) and Leupold rings. Probably $1000 in the rifle. I shot my biggest WT (8 pt) with it two years ago.

First Deer = Neighbor boys and I were hunting snowshoe rabbits. One of the boys kicked out a yearling doe that ran about 20 yards from me and turned facing me. Now what's a boy to do? My new Mossberg .22LR wabbled the sights onto that white spot under her chin. * I was 11 or 12 yr old, so that was 1949 or 1950. When I brought that little doe home Dad used words I hadn't heard him use before. I survived his wrath and eventually got my 22 back. Still have it.

First Deer Rifle = 1955 new Winchester Model 64 in 32 Special.

Latest Deer Rifle = Kimber Hunter 6.5 CM

First was a model 94 long Tom, 30 cal. Great grandfathers, purchased 1895.

Latest… I’m looking into having a 30 cal nosler built. I need more input from current owners of these guns from members here.
