What rifle (model and chambering) did you use to kill your first deer and what rifle (" ") did you use to kill your most recent deer?

My first was with a Remington 770 in 300wm that had something like a 5-stage trigger and rusted if you looked at it too hard šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‡. (That said, it was cheap enough for a college kid to buy new and shot 180s MOA).

My most recent was with a Marlin 336 (produced in 1992) in 30-30.

Gun season hasn't opened here yet but this year an Erma Werke m98 (1939 production) in 6.5x55 will be up to bat.
First deer Remington 721 in .270 Win.
Last deer Remington 700 adl in .270 Win.
Iā€™ll probably give the 6.5 man bun a try on the next tag if I ever draw again.
thats an easy one.

1972 Winchester m94 in 30-30 with factory loads when i killed my first deer (spike). then years and years later, 1972 Winchester m94 in 35/3030 with 200gr RCBS FN GC and 2400/tuft of Dacron and it was fat 4pt.

i still own the m94, but 5 or 6 years ago i sent the m94 to JES Reboring and i got back a 35/30-30. i put on a Williams FP aperture sight cause my eyes ain't what they once were.

sighting it in

i'm going to use my son's '16 Spanish Mauser in 6.5x55 with 120gr Nosler BT and IMR4350 for early doe.

First: Winchester M70 7mm Rem Mag
Last: Winchester M70 7x57
My first deer was killed with buckshot

My first deer rifle was a Winchester 70 .243, but the first deer I killed with a rifle was with a Ruger 77 6.5mm Rem Mag

Last deer I killed was with a Savage 99 .22-250
First deer - Marlin model 81 .22LR

Most recent - H.S. Precision stocked Howa model 1500 6.5 Creedmoor
First rifle I killed a deer with was a Winchester XTR featherweight 257 Roberts and a 120 grain Speer Hot Core. Last deer I killed was with a Ruger 77 in 7x57 in 2002 with a 154 grain Hornady SP. Back in the lower 48 now from Alaska and heading out tomorrow deer hunting. Hoping the 25-222 Copperhead with an 80 grain TTSX will find its way to a buck.
First deer: pre-64 Model 70 Standard Rifle in .270 Winchester

Most recent deer: S&W Model 629

Okie John
Sporterized 03A3 Springfield in first and 6.5 CM on last.
First deer ever was a Remington 7400 30-06 borrowed from an uncle. First with rifle of my own was a Winchester 70 .270. Current rifle is a Remington 700 mountain rifle in a .308

Have many to choose from these days but a 6lb mountain rifle sure carries good and shoots really accurately.
First was an A-Bolt Medallion in 7 Mag when I was 12 years old. I hunted with it until I was 22 and sold it to fund a bow of some sort. I was gonna be the next Chuck Adams! Or so I thought.

The last one was a Ruger M77 Mark II 3o/o6. It was a good price, but still has not been sighted in yet.
First deer with a rifle:

A borrowed Ruger #1 B, in 270 with a leupy vari-x II 3x9x40.....distance 8 yds. Date 12/26 1994.

Of the 3 deer taken this month, 2 were by a mauser M18 6.5prc.......the doe taken last weekend was by a wthby vang heavy barrel 308.
Ruger M77. 250 Savage

Sako AII. 308 Winchester
My first: Rem 870 with Brenneke slug. I couldn't afford a rifle back then.

Last ones: DPMS GII Hunter (.308) and Glock G40 10mm.
First deer was taken with a 14" 357 Max. Contender. The latest, 24" 7mm-08 stainless Encore.
1st deer taken was with dad's Rem 7600 in 6mm REM. still have that rifle. Preferred load was a 100 gr spire point over IMR 4895 I believe.

Last was a re-barrel of a CZ527 from 7.62x39 to a 6.5 Grendel then re-barreled again to 6mm ARC. Suppose it could be argued that the Howa Mini in 6mm ARC would my most recent deer rifle though I have not hunted & do not necessarily plan, on hunting with the Howa, as I just like the CZ 527 that much better.

So far the preferred bullets in the 6mm ARC have been 108 grain Elite hunter, 87 grain Absolute Hammer & 90 grain Hornady Cx.
First, Thompson Center Cherokee, 45 cal, put together from a kit with my Dad when I was a kid.

Last, Fieldcraft 6.5 CM.
First rifle deer was taken with a Ruger 96/44, and the last was with a rifled barrel Remington 870.
30-30 was the first

1st- father's old JC Higgins/Marlin Model 45 30/30

Most recent unblooded- Marlin 444P I traded
another Marlin for. It was starting to become a
spider condominium, so it was traded away.
Should be a good one. It surprised me. It's a
tack driver
Marlin 30-30 with the over/under scope rings so i could use the open sights or scope depending on distance.
First was with a Rem 742 30-06
Last was a Kimber Montana in 7-08. It's the rifle I seem to grab for everything, these days.
I hunted small game & waterfowl when I was younger. I didn't start hunting deer until I was much older. Even though I now have ten rifles that are suitable for deer hunting, it just happens that I shot my first deer & the most recent deer with the same rifle: A Ruger #1 chambered in .303 British with a fixed 6x42mm Leupold using Hornady 150gr SP Interlocks. It's a simple & effective combination that works well in the southeastern woods.
First deer - Savage model 110 30.06
Last deer - Remington Model 700 CDL 25.06
First, Remington 660 in 6mm REM.

Most recent, AR15 parts gun in 6.5 GRENDEL.

I have shot deer with a few dozen different rifles and cartridges. Properly constructed bullets and the proper placement of those bullets counts for more than either the cartridge or the firearm.
My first was a Remington 742 in 30-06. I also had a Remington 1100 12 Gauge for Ohio.

My most recent were a TC Compass in 7mm-08 and a Pedersoli Brown Bess Musket. I'm taking the latter out this weekend for KY's ML season.

Last Deer - Rem 700 VLS 6mmRem

This season, I was planning to take my 90's NOS Rem 700 ADL 6mmRem I picked up earlier this year out but have been having some chambering issues recently with it.

The Rem 700 LR 25-06 will see field duty this year, its been sitting in the safe sans the initial break in since I picked it up new 8 years ago . While I have a few different choices at hand, I don't get the chance to take them out near as often as I'd like.

Last deer taken was with a custom M70 in 6.5 PRC
My first deer was with a sporterized 6.5 Italian Carcano carbine. My most recent rifle is a Weatherby Vanguard in 6.5 Creedmoor. That makes it sound like I mostly shoot 6.5's, but that's not so. I just shot an antelope with my Rem 700 .280 Remington Custom KS Mountain Rifle.
My first deer rifle was a Rem 660 in 6mm Rem. with a 3-9 weaver scope.
My newest deer rifle is a Springfield Waypoint in 6mm creed with a 4-16 Athlon Midas tac scope.

Last Deer: NULA Model 20 in .250 AI, 9 point, 2022
First deer rifle was a early model Remington 760 30-06 that my parents purchase used from my uncle. This would have been somewhere around 1965 and I think they gave him $75.00 for it.

My latest one, and one I have not hunted yet, is a JC Higgins Model 51 in 30-06 that I purchased a couple of years ago here on the campfire for $550.00. The plan is to use it this year.
First- Marlin 336 .35 Remington
Last- Remington 78 30-06
First- ruger 77 boat paddle 30-06 (not fun to shoot)

Just walked through the door and there's a 243Win Montucky wearing a fhuqking 30mm Reupold Ocular Lit Bitch 50mm upon it,in Dog Schit mounts. Hint.

[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]

There's stacks of Mail,so there should be some Reupold BC mounts and if I recall correctly a 6x MQ,Illuminatti and a 1-6x HD MQ LitBitch. I see one parcel that's a barrel for sure and I reckon it to be another 1-8" 7-08 spout. If the weather cooperates, there will be a CA Mesa 7-08 in my mitts his weekend. Hint.

FIRST rifle was a 742 Twat-Six Carbine wearing a Cutt's. 3-9x Reupold and 165 Core-Rocks. Killed a LOT of schit with it,but miss it NONE,though it still exists. Hint...............

My first deer I killed with dadā€™s Marlin 1894 .44 Remington Magnum. It was stalk and shoot in the old farm in some really thick brush.

My first personal rifle was a Ruger M77 Mark II in .308 Winchester. I had a gunsmith glass bed it and float the barrel. I put a Pachmeyer recoil pad on it and a Timney trigger. It has a VXIII 3.5-10x40 on it. I recently got it out and shot it for the first time in a long time. I figured Iā€™d try some loads in it that my Tikka didnā€™t like. If shot a tiny clover-leaf with 150 gr Nosler Partitions. I think Iā€™ll hunt it this fall in the thick woods.

Latest deer rifle is a Browning Suppressor-Ready X-bolt Hellā€™s Canyon with an 18ā€ barrel. For now it has a 3.5-10x40 VX3i on it and a GemTech Sandstorm Titanium suppressor on it. Iā€™ll use this in the blinds when I take the kids hunting. Gotta protect those young ears so they arenā€™t deaf like me.

First was a 30-06 Woodsmaster I was given from my father in law. Most recently I picked up a CVA Cascade 6.5 that is a blast to shoot out to 1000+.
First was a young 7 point (busted rack) with my Marlin 30AW (Wal-Mart 336) in 30/30. Shot was with the deer facing me and me shooting downhill. Hit him in the neck and flipped him onto his back. 80yards as last shooting light. I quickly ran down to see him and he was still very much alive and blood everywhere, right as my Godfather came to pick me up. I was 11 and that was 2.5ish decades
ago.

My last deer was with a Kimber Classic Select in 257 Roberts. I killed three bucks last year. As I struggle to remember the details of the last one, but he was a cull buck with a screwed up rack. Shot was about 250 yards through the lungs. Short run and wobble, followed by a kick and plume of dust as he fell to the ground.

Itā€™s funny how I can remember the details of the first so easily, yet allow the details of more recent kills to fade so readily.
IT'S funnier than fhuqk, that you Brokedicks,"remember" nothing. Hint.

LAUGHING!!!!!!..................

That SG FWT is one cool cat Beavā€¦.

1st Ruger M77 Ultralight 30-06

Last. Remington M7 7mm-08
1st deer was with a borrowed Win 94 in 30-30, around 1965.

1st big game rifle of my own was a sporterized Enfield in 30-06, of course.
I quickly migrated to a Rem 700 in .270 that was my mainstay for decades.

The last rifle and the one I use almost exclusively is a Kimber Hunter in 6.5 CM.
The Hunter and the chambering are to me, the easy button. Light, accurate and has proven to be perfectly capable of handling game up to and including (several times now) elk.
My first deer was with a single shot 410 with 000 buck.

My first rifle deer was with either a Browning A-bolt 243 or Browning BAR 30-06. I shot them interchangeably and donā€™t remember which.

My last rifle deer was taken with the same BAR in 30-06. It just wears a much nicer scope these days.
When I started WI was still shotgun only opening weekend and rifle for the remainder in many units (59B and 61 were mostly where I hunted then). I had to suffer a 3 shot, Stevens bolt action 20 gauge for the first couple openers. After opening weekend my dad used a 30-06 and I got to tote his BPS with a slug barrel.

Took my first deer with that BPS 12 gauge and a 1oz Brenneke.

First rifle deer was with a Browning Acera 30-06 that I got the previous Christmas.

Last deer was with a Mauser M12 in 308 Win.
First centerfire rifle kill was Ruger .44 fingergroove
Last rifle kill was w Rem 760 in .35 rem.

Just got a Ruger #1 in .308 for this yr.
First was a Marlin 30-30 with a cheap scope. Purchased in about 1963 and I still have it. Latest is a .308 Win NULA by Wilson Combat
First: Ruger No. 1B in .243 Winchester.

Latest: Tikka T3X in 6.5 Creedmoor.
A model 700 rem in 308 was my fist in 1969

And a knight kp1 in 50 cal mussel loader 204 Ruger, a 270 win , and a 45-70 in 2008.
Shot my first deer with a Weatherby Vanguard in 7mm REM Mag my Dad bought me. Last years deer was shot with my Model 70 SS Classic in 30-06. In shotgun only area this year. Be using the Remington 870 my Dad bought me as well. Sports a rifled barrel now. Amazing how much game Iā€™ve taken with that Wingmaster.
1920 Savage 250-3000
Custom Remington 700 243 Win
My first deer and deer rifle is this Ruger 77 mkII in 30-06 I got in '95. It started as a boat paddle but got a Micky in coyote bomber from Mr. Bin probably in 2010.

First was a Savage 340 in .30-30.
Current is a Remington Model 760 in .35 Remington. KV barrel code, May 1979, with a J prefix, 1978, Leupold M8 4x. Both were n.i.b. when I bought them last December.
My first deer rifle was a Marlin 336 30-30 with a gold trigger my dad gave me. The first deer rifle i purchased myself was a Ruger M77 Mark II In 270 win. My most recent hunting rifle and one i use this season is a Kimber Hunter Pro in 6.5 Creedmoor.
First deer rifle was a Midland Arms .243 Win with 4X Jana scope. I don't have a picture of it, and it still resides at my parents house. I upgraded the trigger to a Timney and 3-9X40 VXI on the scope eventually.

This year I had a good friend I used to work and hunt with pass away. He left me his Ruger .44 Carbine, and I hope to take a deer with it in OK before Thanksgiving.

My first was a Ruger M77 7mm Rem Mag bought new in 1977 (sold many years ago) scoped with a Burris 4X. My most recent, just a few weeks ago, is a used Rem M700 ADL synthetic in 6.5 Creedmoor. It will wear a 3-9X FFII.
My first deer rifle was a Rem 742 in 30-06, purchased used in 1984. It developed a bad case of the chatters and I had to retire it in 2004.

Before that, I used a Rem 1100 12 GA with a smoothbore barrel and rifle sights.

My last buck was taken last year with a Ruger Hawkeye in 30-06.

My first was a.Marlin 30-30. Most recent a Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe 30-06.
My first deer rifle was a Model 700 in 7mm RM. The one I use now is a Weatherby Vanguard 2 in .30-06. In between those two were a couple of .30-06 semi-autos, a .243W model 700, and a .30-06 model 700 (which I still occasionally use).

First deer was with a Marlin Papoose 22lr. That killed a lot of deer. The last deer shot was with a rifle was with a Kimber Montana 7mm-08. The last deer shot period was with a Glock 19. This week Iā€™ll go out probably.
First deer was grandpa's 141 35 rem. That was in 2001. Last deer was tc venture rebored to 358 Winchester, using 200 grain cast bullets that I cast myself.
Remington 700 BDL 308 Winchester 1978
Sig Cross 308 Winchester 2023
First deer and rifle was a browning BBR 30-06 wearing a 9 power swift scope. Shot 110 power points. Bought it off my science teacher when I was 10 years old. I made payments on it all summer and through the first couple months of school. Paid 250 bucks for it, i think. (I know, my old man made me shoot the same cartridge as him) busted me good when I was young. Most recent is a 7mm express built on a 700 with a no. 2 shilen stainless.

Sold that 06 in college because I was "really smart" and thought I needed a 220 swift. Miss that old browning.
Think the first deer rifle I bought was a savage 99C in 308.
Newest is a 1961 husqvarna 1640 std in 30-06, bought that one for a bit over $300 CDN.
Bought my Rem 700 in 7RM in 1996 when I was hunting rifle zone in northern Michigan. Still have it, but it's been repurposed as my moose rifle.

Now I'm in "shotgun" zone in lower Michigan and bought a Savage Axis in 350 Legend. Looking forward to my first harvest with it this year.
Wincester Model 88 in .308 when I was 14 ish (1967) Last deer was several years ago as Iā€™ve all but quit deer huntingā€¦. semi-custom Win. Model 70 in .375 AI, which I got in 1990! memtb
First rifle was a spanish mauser, never been confident enough in it to take it out for deer, bent front sight. First rifle i took a deer with was a 6.5 cm, howa 1500 gameking. Most recent was a West Germany Mark V in .257 weatherby that ive been fighting grouping issues, havent touched it in a year and got it out last night, to discover one of the screws on each side of scope mount was no longer tight, and if i tighted rear up all the way, the bolt wouldn't move. Found the right length and reassembled, will try it out this weekend
1976, I bought a new Sears and Robuck Ted Williams model 94 in 30-30 for $99 dollars mail order.
Now, I am back down the Encore rabbit hole with a 7-08.
First I bought was a Rem700 CDL Mountain Hunter in 270

Last one, with several in between, was a Sako Grey Wolf in 25-06
270 Winchester............I was in the 9th grade.....4 point buck Remington 700 ADL
Just last year 300 Winchester Magnum.........8 point buck Remington 700 ADL
This year 450 Bushmaster............for the hell of it. Ruger American 22" barrel

I just today bought a Ruger American Go Wild 450 Bushmaster. My first one was a 700 SPS in 270.
First buck was in 1995. Used my Grandmaā€™s custom Rem 660 in .243 shooting 100 gr Nosler Partitions..

Last rifle I purchased (here off the classifieds) is a mostly NIB (box and paperwork included) 1982 model 700 BDL deluxe in .300 Win Mag. I havenā€™t killed a deer with it yet but Iā€™m sure I will. It will kill elk and moose dead though!

Todd
My first deer was downed with a borrowed Winchester back in 1971. One shot through the chest organs at a distance of approximately 75 yards did the job. I'm still a huge fan of 30-30 lever guns. - Sherwood
1st .... 760 Carbine in 308

Current .... faux Rigby Stalker in 275Rigby but haven't shot a deer with it yet. One moose is all.

Likes 120gr NBTs.

Rem BDL 25-06 first deer

Ruger #1 25-06 AI last deer.
First deer; 99R Savage, .300 Savage, tang peep sight, 150 gr Hornady FB, BallC2 powder,

Last deer; Savage 220 20 gauge rifled bore, 3-9 Leupold, 3" Accutips

Last deer with a rifle; M70 Winchester "All-Terrain", .30-06, 2.5-8 Leupold, 180 gr Nosler Partition.
First deer in 1982 with a Browning BLR in 308 Win. and my last deer (last year) Remington 700 Classic in 7x57
Ruger M77 30-06 and then Tikka CTR 308, in that order. Dropped a big doe at a lasered 366 yards like she was standing on a trap door.
First deer taken with a borrowed (from my uncle) Marlin 336 in 30-30. Last deer with a Rem 700 in 308 WIN last week on my farm.
First deer was with a single shot h&r 12 gauge. First deer with a rifle, after cutting many many lawns, was with a used Rem 700 30/06... Back when the 06' was cool. These days my favorite squeeze is a stainless contender carbine, 16" barrel in 7-30 waters. Crazy light, 4#3oz without scope and perfectly suited to the terrain I hunt. All shots are within 60 yards, no need for a belted magnum here.
First deer was with a Marlin 336 .30-30 Win.

Most recent a suppressed AR15 parts gun I put together in 5.56mm shooting 77gr TMKs.
1986 Browning BAR IN .30-06. Last few deer have been with a Ruger GSR in .308 Win.
My Dad's 1927 manufactured '94 in .30WCF. (30-30)

Killed my first deer with it in 1966. Have yet to kill anything else with it, but it's my walk-about rifle up here, for the most part.

I killed my first moose with a Marlin 336, now sleeping with the fishes.

Growing up in the shotgun zone of Michigan my first deer gun was a Rem 870 12ga. That single gun has put more meat in the freezer then probally all of my other firearms combined.

My 1st real centerfire that continues to be a regular workhorse is a Ruger M77 MK II stainless in 30-06. It has accounted for my best elk, mule deer and 2nd best whitetail.

My current go-to deer buster is a Kimber Montana in .308. Love the handiness of these rifles.
My first deer: whitetail doe Marlin 336 30-30

Last deer: mule deer Christensen Arms .308 Ridgeline FFT.
My first deer was a whitetail doe, shot on the run at about 120 meters with a #1 .303 British SMLE in a "cut down" sporter configuration, shooting CIL Imperial 180 grain Sabre tip ammunition. That was in 1973.
My latest was actually two years ago, a whitetail buck shot offhand at approx 200M, with a Krieghoff Hubertus single shot .30R Blaser and RWS 184 Gr. Evo bullet.
So far in 2023 the closest I've come to shooting a "deer" was a Zimbabwe Impala shot with a .416 Remington Win. M70 Safari, at about 120 M, using a Barnes 400 gr. TSX.
My first was with my dad's 94 .32 spl. I now own it. My last was a 7mm RM, my late wife's favorite rifle.
First deer rifle was a No.4 Mk1 Lee Enfield .303 British that my Grandfather "sporterized" with a handsaw, a wood rasp, and some linseed oil. First two were killed in 1971, right after I turned 16. Killed seven bucks with that rifle, and I still have it. Loaded my own ammo using Hornady 150gr Spire Pts and IMR-4895 powder. That rifle will shoot 1.5 to 2 MOA with the factory irons (aperture rear sight).

Most recent is a Browning BAR II Safari Grade in .26-06 with the nicest wood I've ever seen on one of the Safari Grades. Hopefully, I'll blood it this season.
First one was traded off long again. Model 70 30-03. Most recent Bergera .243.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]
First was an Winchester M1 carbine my great uncle sent home when he got out of the Navy in 1946. The last one I bought was a 1936 Winchester model 71 . Using the model 71 this year for the first time. First deer rifle I personally bought was a Remington 788 carbine in .243 which I still have and hunt with 50 years later.

First: Marlin 336 .30-30 circa 1971 purchased used in 1974 for $50. Added sight through mounts for $8 and Bushnell Banner 1.5-4X scope for $30. Shot a spike, my first WT with it.

Last: PSA PA-10 .308 Gen 3 with Bushnell Elite 3200 SA 3-10x 40mm scope (already had it) and Leupold rings. Probably $1000 in the rifle. I shot my biggest WT (8 pt) with it two years ago.
First Deer = Neighbor boys and I were hunting snowshoe rabbits. One of the boys kicked out a yearling doe that ran about 20 yards from me and turned facing me. Now what's a boy to do? My new Mossberg .22LR wabbled the sights onto that white spot under her chin. * I was 11 or 12 yr old, so that was 1949 or 1950. When I brought that little doe home Dad used words I hadn't heard him use before. I survived his wrath and eventually got my 22 back. Still have it.

First Deer Rifle = 1955 new Winchester Model 64 in 32 Special.

Latest Deer Rifle = Kimber Hunter 6.5 CM
i killed a doe Saturday with my TC Encore in a 23" MGM barrel in 444 Marlin with a 280gr WFN GC and Reloder 7 going 1947fps.
First was a model 94 long Tom, 30 cal. Great grandfathers, purchased 1895.

Latestā€¦ Iā€™m looking into having a 30 cal nosler built. I need more input from current owners of these guns from members here.

Osky
First deer was with buckshot. My first deer killed with a rifle was a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington. The last deer I shot with a rifle was a Steyr-Mannlicher M Professional .30-06 Springfield and the last deer gun I purchased is a Winchester 71 .348 Winchester

Welp, here's my story. That's me on the right with my first buck back in 1966. Got the 7 pointer on the first day opener on our dairy farm here in Pa. with my (borrowed) uncles 30-30 pre 64 Winchester model 94 carbine. The deal was being rifles were in short supply in the family, some were stuck using their shotguns with slugs, so as soon as I got my buck, the rifle went back to my uncle. So, that's me with my first buck but holding my dad's Remington 760 Gamemaster 270. My buddy Bob (left) is holding his M-94 in 32 Special. He'd walk 2 miles over the hill from his house just to hunt with us on our farm. My latest deer rifle is an 8mm Mauser Husky purchased on here from luv2safari.
Great picture!
My first deer was taken with a Marlin 336 in 30-30, Tasco 3-9 scope

My current hunting rifle is an MRC X2 .260rem 20" threaded barrel with a Deadair Nomad30 ti suppressor, Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10 x 44 scope in Tally lightweight rings. It's the most enjoyable rifle to carry and shoot.
My first was a Lee Enfield No. 5 Jungle Carbine in .303 British. My latest is my dad's old Remington 721 30/06. He passed in April. I was with him when he killed his last deer with that rifle. It hadn't been shot since then. I traded the old Weaver for a Leupold and sighted it in. Hope to get a deer or elk with it next year.
Updated: Sako Hi-Power chambered in 270 for the most recent.
My first was a German 98 Mauser in 8mm, a surplus rifle that was 29.99, my dad sporterized it for me from PO Ackley book.

Killed the most with a 98 Mauser Douglas 243.

the last deer i killed was a doe with my Husqvarna m46 in 9.3x57 with 275gr WFN GC and IMR4895 going approx 1800-1900fps (i have to chrony it).
First was a lever action .243 in eastern Oregon. Sadly I cannot remember the make, it was my uncleā€™s.

Most recent Win Mod 70 7MM RM.
First was, you'll be surprised to hear, an open-sighted Marlin 336 CS in .30/.30. Maywood, NE area circa 1989.

Got half of my bucks with a bow in recent years, half with a Marlin XS-7 in .308 with 3-9x40 VX-1. Good bargain rig.
First two bucks with a 1955 Remington 760 in 244. My last two bucks last month fell to my 1955 M70 Featherweight 30/06.
I like the span of vintages!
First was with my uncles 30-30 lever action that my dad inherited. He had the local shop mount and bore sight a scope and off we went. One shot was all it took!
Latest was with a savage .300wsm.
First buck was in Carbon County, PA. Used a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington I bought when I came home from the war in 1970.
Purchased at Leslie Edelman's in Horsham, PA for $74.95. Ad was in the Sunday Philadelphia Inquirer. Last rifle was a Ruger RSI .243.

We are opposites! My first was a Marlin 30/30. My last is a Browning Bar MK3 Stalker 300WSM. In the middle of all of that were several other 300 wsm's, 30.06's, 300 utra mags and a 45/70. And at least a handful of other calibers. My go to hunting rifles right now are, Reminton 700 VTR 223, Tika t-3 Ultralite 6.5 CM, Kimber Mountain Ascent 300 WSM, Browning Bar MK3 Stalker 300 WSM and a Henry 45/70. Just depends on the hunt!
My first deer was taken with a Remington M760 in .270 Winchester.

Well....now my "last" is a Model 700 BDL SS in 264WM, 26" barrel. For slipping around in the woods, either of my Mountain rifles (Mark V ULWT/Kimber 8400) are as snappy as my old Mod 94 Classic with its octagon barrel.
I haven't found my "last" one yet, still looking

Everyone knows killing a deer with a 244 is impossible because itā€™s got a slow twist. whistle
If it was my bullet that killed this one, then it was a $5 Mauser 98 7.92x57. with issue sights - Norma ammo. This was the first deer I ever shot at. It ran 50 yards all down hill.

The next one would have been with a '03 Springfield with a K4 scope, either with cast bullets or 180 grain core lokts.

I hope Iā€™ve not shot my last one.
While my first deer fell to my dad's Winchester Model 94 30-30 (which I still have).

My first deer rifle was a 1975 Remington Model 700 BDL 30-06 that I bought new (my dad did the paperwork).

My latest was picked up today, one of the Lipsey Ruger M77 Hawkeye "African" in 35 Whelen. I'm going to mount a Zeiss Conquest 2.5-8X32mm with a plex reticle and call it good.

StarchedCover
Marlin 336 30-30. Tikka T3 lite 6.5...its for sale in the classifieds because I found out they make the same rifle with a shorter barrel
First deer fell to my old ā€˜94 .30 WCF. given to me by my Grandma in 1965.
My most recent by the up-dated more modern equivalent; a Rem. Model 7 in 7mm-08.
Both are real handy.
First rifle was a sporterized US Model 1917 Enfield (Eddystone) 30-06, which I still have. It was my dad's.

The last rifle I acquired was a Kimber Mountain Ascent 308 Win.
First rifle was Winchester Model 94 30-30 from my mother when she passed (I was 15). Now, at 85, have a custom Remington 7mm-08.
First deer was with a 788 carbine in 7mm-08 that I still have . Latest deer rifle was picked up from my smith on Thursday and is a custom 7mm-08ai
I just picked up a Winchester Classic Featherweight 308 at a gun show. It has decent wood for a factory rifle and it came with sights and Leopold QD rings and bases. I haven't seen one of these with sights before
First was a Weatherby Vanguard in 270. Most recent was a Tikka 30-06.
My most recent (as of Saturday) is a M70 classic featherweight in 308. It kept whispering softly "take me home, take me home" so after coming back to it 3 times I brought her home.
First was a Remington 742 30-06 that I received for my 15th Christmas in '71. Killed a boxcar full of deer with it.....and no, it never jambed. But, boy was it heavy....

The latest for deer, and everything else for the last 5 years, has been a Montana in 7-08. There have been a few in between, but this Montana is so sweet to carry all day long.
My first in 1967 was a 7mm Spanish Mauser my Old Man paid $15 for, and it was worth about $10. Geez, what a worthless POS - it soured me greatly on all Spanish Mausers for the next 57 years and counting. First real rifle, bought with my own money for $40 the next year, was a M1896 Krag Cavalry Carbine, a genuine one not a cut-down rifle. That gun was in my hands when I whacked my first deer. No pics exist of either gun.

The last couple seasons I've alternated about equally between three, unable to pick one over the other - they all serve me well and will likely be my deer hunting battery until the end of my days. I'm not as gung-ho about it as I used to be. In no particular order of preference:

Original Springfield M1903 NRA Sporter, 1929, one of around 4400 made between 1922 and 1933.
Krag sporter I built.
Ruger #1A 6.5x55.
Ok. Iā€™ll play.

Myself like gnoahhh, first deer rifle was an old Spanish Ovideo M1916 7x57, mom bought me for Christmas 1969 for $19.95. The following Christmas I got an old Weaver K4 to put on it. Over the past 50+ years had a lot done to it. The old Austin gunsmith, Buster Kreuz, D&Tā€™ed it. And bent the bolt. I got after it with a saw and did all the "fancy" stock work. Old hunting pard and gunsmith the late Joe Sherrod of Llano Tx. Had a decent 7x57 barrel so he rebarreled it for me about 25-30 years ago. Kids have hunted with it too!

And today I just picked up one of my grail rifles. I always wanted since I first spotted one in a 1953 Shooterā€™s Bible. A Model 1950 Mannlicher Schoenauer in 7.62x63 (šŸ¤£). I doubt it will kill anything any deader than that old Spanish Mauser! šŸ˜‰

Pretty obvious the Krag would take it on style points where I hunt.
