Cinci is passing some gun laws to go after gunowners who leave guns in cars and have them stolen
They are saying 2 guns are reported stolen a day in a Cincinnati
$750 fine for stolen guns that aren't reported immediately $200 fee to return stolen gun to owner - fee covers ballistics testing and serial number database checking
whatever, what I want to know
Who leaves a gun in their car in an urban city?

Probably about as many who leave their company computer in the same car. I've heard it a thousand times "This is a nice neighborhood. Nothing ever happens here". Yea right . As the guy says Here's your sign".

Of all the places one goes a city is the place where one would need a firearm the most. If you have to stop at a place that you can’t bring a firearm in with you then the law requires that you leave it locked in your vehicle. If they don’t want you leaving it locked in your vehicle then they should provide lockers for temporary safe storage.
I’m not going into any city unarmed and if I have to stop somewhere that doesn’t allow firearms by law, not company policy, then it gets locked in my vehicle.
The former dipshit chief of Seattle police department had his service weapon stolen at LEAST TWICE from his UNLOCKED department vehicle.

I think this is a PERFECT TIME and perfect opportunity for the citizens of Cincinnati to DEMAND an audit of the police department weapon inventory! For every firearm missing from their inventory they should be required to pay the same fines as well as additional serious consequences for their irresponsible recklessness!

I guess it could be people just running into a quickie mart and getting the car broken into, but I get the impression from the news story , its cars parked long term.
I said urban because I wouldn't leave a gun in the car overnight in a city, I *might* do that if I lived in the country
I'm not leaving a laptop in a car in the city long term either, or a cell phone, or anything valuable
Given its Cincinnati, its probably not a lot of white people living outside the city going to high theft areas in the city

Easy question.....goofballs leave their guns in cars. I don't even want to leave a gun in a car to go in and eat a sandwich, much less over night. At least get one of those lock boxes fastened to the car and make them work for it.

At least 2 people per day in Cincinnati apparently.
wanted to find out more about the statistics of this. Here is what I found
In cities that report crime data to the FBI:
On average, at least one gun is stolen from a car every 15 minutes.
Thefts from cars divert guns away from the legal market, making them particularly dangerous.
A decade ago, less than a quarter of gun thefts were from cars; in 2020, over half were.
2019–2020 saw recent history’s biggest spike in gun thefts from cars, in unison with spikes in gun sales and homicides, and the speed of crime gun recoveries.
Cars parked at residences (driveways, outside homes, etc.) are the most common source of stolen guns, demonstrating the importance of securely storing guns at all times and locations.
the last one is what I don't get people doing
