I was called Lil Abner by a former construction company boss. That was 28 years ago.

Not many folks know who "Li'l Abner" is. He was Mammy and Pappy Yokum's son. He was married (?) to Daisy Mae*. He was a mattress tester at a local mattress factory! They lived in "Dog Patch". The cartoon was called "Dogpatch USA". It was created by cartoonist Al Capp. Capp created a cast of characters that was amazing. My sister, my dad and myself spent Sunday morning reading the comics out of the Sunday paper. Dallas Morning News was standard fare. Occasionally, we'd get a Houston Chronicle. When my sister married and moved to Tyler, we started getting the Tyler Morning Telegraph.
* - Daisy Mae was the inspiration for "Dukes of Hazzard's" Daisy Duke's skimpy blue jean shorts.

Used to read it in the newspaper comics when I was a kid. Never cared much for that one as I remember.

When I was a kid, there was a Hamburger place called Joe Btfspk's Hamburger Haven - incredible burgers.

Fantastic comic but not for MORONS. Pogo was better.

Never cared for it. (Although I did get hauled out of a tree during a Sadie Hawkins Day race at church camp.) I am sure that it was because I couldn't stand Mammy Yokum. The same thing held for Beverly Billhillies because of that detestable Granny character.
Not a real member - just an ordinary guy who appreciates being able to hang around and say something once in awhile.

It was made into a Broadway musical play. I was the student director when our high school put it on.
Good characters;
General Bullmoose--What's good for General Bullmoose is good for the USA. Progress is the rood of all evil, progress is the heart of it all. I want to join a golf course, where? They've built a supermarket there.
Moonbeam McSwine--Howdy boys, I'm Moonbeam McSwine. Sleepin' out with the pigs is my line. The fellas' admire me but they don't squire me lessen the weather is fine.
Earthquake McGoon
Mammy Yokum--I's sweet and I's mystical, and pugilistical. Matter of fact I'se champeen.
Jubilation P. Cornpone--When we fought the yankees and annihilation was near, who was there to lead us safe to the rear? When we almost had 'em but the issue still was in doubt, Who was there to turn around and turn it into a rout?
Oh happy day when miracles take place, And scientists control the human race. When we produce from chromosomes Gargantuans and gnomes And assembly line women, Conveyor belt men, Settle down in push button homes.
Those were the days.
Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.
Democrats would burn this country to the ground, if they could rule over the ashes.
