Watch out for Rez dogs too. Couple years back a pack of dogs in Lame Deer killed and ate on one of the members. There was an all out hunt right after that and lots of strays were shot. Going thru there now I think they are more than before. Anyone recall maybe 15-20 years ago all the young Indian girls found raped and dead along 212 between Crow Agency and Belle Fourche? Was it 9 that they know of? No one arrested yet. Osky Don't remember that one...but I do remember the dude the dogs ate. I thought that maybe he died first and then the dogs ate him? There was a pile of suicide on Ft Belknap here a few years ago. Made the national news. Young girls. You can imagine some of the reasons why.

I was up north of the rez not long ago in Colstrip and working in a place was one of the most beautiful young women I’ve ever seen, looked full blood. Im not sure if Crow or Shylala just going by the area. All of 5’ 11, slender with legs to the moon and a striking face. I sure hope she gets discovered, beauty like that should not go to waste.
Osky She still hasn't called. I assume you gave her my number.

You know all about the books, "Stay Away, Joe" and "Winter in the Blood" if you grew up on the Rez (or near one) in Montana.

Osky She still hasn't called. I assume you gave her my number. I had a client I’d guided for a lot of great fishing trips who owned a modeling/ casting agency. Great old guy and while fishing or in the evenings in camp the guys would discuss the beauties he’d known and he would comment on what made them special. This young lady fit the bill as I recall. If he were still alive I’d call him about her, not that he’d have done anything but it sure would be nice to see the young lady catch a break. High cheekbones and smoldering eyes should never be wasted when matched with long dark hair. Her standards should be beyond we mere mortals Rob. Osky

Lots of folks have touched on things that are the reality on the rez.
I could tell stories for days and I have only been working in and around the rez for 6-7 years.
Shrap touched on it well. Others followed up with good info.
The core issue is that the rez is perfect model of socialism. The fact is, rez life is proof that socialism fails, every time. Put the control of the finances and who gets what in the hands of the few with little to no accountability, and what you get is nepotism, favoritism and corruption.
Another aspect of rez life, is that life is cheap. Concern for people and their well-being isn't there, even for their children. Until they are hurt or killed or lost. That is a core issue at the center of the MMIW issue that most don't want to accept.

The fellow that used to work for me was dating an Indian gal.
Her granddaughter was a stunner.
She got discovered some how and we helped to send her to a modeling company.
I can't remember just how she was discovered though. I will ask my gimped wife.

There was a pretty girl working the counter at the big gas stop in Browning four years back, seemed friendly and outgoing.
About twenty years back we headed east through the Northern Cheyenne Reservation working our way from the LBH kinda-sorta back to Texas by way of Devil’s Tower (might have my geography/sequence mixed up). Didn’t leave pavement so mostly I’m recalling just pretty country.
It was getting late so we stayed in the motel in Ashland. If the walls could talk that place looked like it could tell stories. Only other people staying there were a couple of construction-type Mexicans with a pickup.
I’m distantly recalling the Christian school but the image that sticks in mind was a longhair Indian kid maybe twelve or thirteen. He was riding a BMX bicycle AND wearing a bicycle helmet. I thought that kid has a mom who cares about him 🙂
I’m just a history tourist, passing through I was recalling Little Wolf and his wife who lived in self-imposed exile there during the last years of their life after he had killed a man for bothering his daughter, even though the family of the dead guy understood and weren’t seeking revenge. Or so the story goes.

Or so the story goes. Incest is terribly prevalent on that Rez. It was bad with the added alcohol influence but has become much worse with the meth explosion. As have other crimes. Yes outside intervention is needed and wanted by some, but once outsiders do show up the entire Rez clams up and goes into the us against whitey mode. Self destruction. “Idle hands are the devils playthings” is a term on display on the Rez. Osky

The rez about 30 minutes from here has a casino that they profit share from but it’s probably a lot smaller than the ones out West. A lot of the same stuff on a smaller scale.
My mom worked for the Bureau of Indian Education for a few years while I was growing up. I was able to do some get togethers with Native American kids for organized potlucks and camps. Most if not all lived off of the rez. The get togethers were pretty cool.
Several years back a preschooler was killed and burned in a BBQ to destroy the evidence. The murder I believe was a member of the tribe but looked white to me. Mostly it’s small crimes and single wides full of ATV’s and such weathering out front.
They buy booze, cigarettes, and lottery tickets at the gas stations and convenience stores and are some of the tackiest dressers that I’ve ever seen, even when compared to blacks but they’re nearly all at least outwardly friendly. A lot of tracksuits and a lot of gold jewelry.

We have a small rez about 5 miles from our house. It belongs to a tribe that was 'dissolved' in mid twentieth century and then reinstated in the 70's or 80's. Cedar Band of the Piaute. It seem like it's in pretty good shape. Houses seem to be kept up, etc. The folks that I've met from there seem to be good people.
Sure not like some that I lived next to in Oklahoma (Ponca) and the ones in Oregon (Cellilo, Warm Springs).
Kinda wonder if it is because they were forced out of the rez system for a while and it broke some of the cycles.

You just couldn't handle the foreplay. I must be missing something or I must have dated the wrong kind of Native in Oklahoma. She was cool to hang out and party with, really pretty woman and great personality, but boring as heck in the bedroom..She was full blooded Cherokee...

Living here in Appalachia West...we get a unique view of the American Injun and the white man side by side in similar situations. The little lumber towns, and some not so little, are the white man's Rez equivalent. When the Spotted Owl, Marbled Murralet, Sierra Club, 9th Circuit and mostly NAFTA destroyed the wood products industry in the west, tens of thousands family wage jobs disappeared overnight, then the businesses...with no hope of recovery. Imagine Youngstown, Detroit on just a slightly smaller scale. Wood products industry, by it's nature, was mostly centered outside large urban zones. Overnight, your job was gone, your home was worthless, no hope of any job better than pumping gas...and lucky to get that. Unemployed dads, angry wives, disillusioned children. It was the same story as the rust belt. Where did these people turn? Same as Youngstown or Bethlehem...Divorce, drugs, alcohol, welfare, food stamps, despair. A white Rez in all but name. A few scraped together enough to flee toward jobs and hope, kept their families intact...most didn't. It ain't the Injun regardless of color...it's the system. I think you nailed it...You just described my little hometown in Texas when the bottom fell out of the oilfield years ago, and more and worst types of drugs like Meth became prevalent. Many white people raised by good Christian folks turned into total deadbeats overnight, unwilling to move away even just a hundred miles to a better life, or to get a higher education...They'd rather just stay there killing themselves with drugs and alcohol and live like heathens than try something new..Even when the oilfield economy picked back up, the town has still never been the same. The old folks that were the backbone of the little town that made it a great place to live, that would have never asked for charity, and worked for everything they have all died off. It's not the same "village" I grew up in where everyone used to know everyone and looked out for the kids, everyone went to church, and the people were all very humble and would give the shirt off their back to those in need.

I drove down mainstreet I look over and saw NOT one, NOT two, but THREE drunken Indians.
This, in a town of maybe 550 people? So 3 out of 550 huh? That accounts for about one half of one percent of the local population yet you go on to condemn not just a community but a entire race of people due to your supposed observation of 0.50% the local population. I don't want to sound overly critical of Indian peoples or racist For 'not wanting to' you do a damn good job of being 'overly critical'. In fact it appears like seeking something that fits the stereotype you like to paint a picture of is more like a total fixation with you. Perhaps I should NOT be so critical as I don't have a solution You type that out like it's your standard 'righteous white' guy disclaimer.

Osky They hit 25 and all of a sudden develop a body like Mr. Peanut. Skinny little legs, no ass, and giant gut. Never seen an older one that is even remotely attractive unless she’s biracial.
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.
