The first time I did it, lo these many years ago, I was well past 50, and well overdue. The doc had never asked for one, and I didn't feel like reminding him. As it turned out, half a century of using my alimentary canal the way one might use a borrowed 4X4 had taken its toll. I had a slew of polyps and a couple were . . . well, questionable. The surgeon snipped everything and sent it off to the lab and luckily nothing was malignant.

That was a close enough shave. My Mom's best friend had a husband that was a puss about it. He waited until he was showing outward signs to go to the doctor. The surgeon sectioned his bowel, and told him to be back every 6 months for a checkup. The doofus was too scared to go back. He assumed ambient temperature 2 years later, dying in agony.

Colon cancer is one of the easiest malignancies to detect early and fix permanently. It grows slowly, so you've got plenty of time. However, after 45, you're rolling the dice.

I gave up-to-the-minute reports on my first colonoscopy as a public service to this forum, and I had a bunch of emails from guys who said they had seen the light.

I suggest y'all put down the chicken and get thee to church-- or the proctologist.

Even with non torso surgeries, I stop eating 2 days before.

This is the answer. If the prep was a painful and/or very unpleasant experience it's your fault for packing your gut like you will never see food again. Eat less, not more in the days before. Eat easily digestible food, not gut bombs. Common sense.

The instructions I got had a low residue diet for three and two days before, and a clear liquid diet for the day before. Other than tasting bad the prep was no big deal. Sure, I needed to stay near a toilet, but it wasn't like I was passing brown cinder blocks with the power of a Saturn V rocket engine.

I had my first colonoscopy last summer and it was easy peasy. I took the pills for prep along with lots of water. Being a meat eater I was surprised that I didn't have any polyps, 10 years and ill do it again.

Bring a disposable diaper to wear after the procedure. Sometimes a phart is more than just gas.

Best of luck Shaman!

Mines a week from today. Not a terrible thing to endure but few look forward to it. The Dr. consult afterward is the nervous part.

I have always said think of how much the crime rate would drop, if you were convicted and part of your sentence was a colonoscopy prep.

Doc said I could go the easy route this week with just a sample.
I forgot and here is ups, yep it was schit kit like I've never seen before, 30 page illustrated instruction manual and 4 page shipping instruction pamphlet.
Haven't read a manual that large since drivers ed and just can't get motivated for that.
