Do any of you lease property around the Conneaut lake area? Have a line on a small farm that I may be able to lease. Down here the going rate is 10-12 dollars an acre. However down here is not up there. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Send a PM to bwinters. I know he leases some land (or did) up here. It's the next county over from Conneaut Lake, but should give you a good idea.

We used to live on 55 acres in Benezette. Those were some good times.

Not too many people lease around here. I know there is a hunting club that leases about 1500 acres for around a thousand dollars. But I'm not sure on the details. only what I heard around the neighborhood.

In my area, the hunting seems to be getting better every year. the bucks are getting bigger and more prevalent. Used to be you'd hear of one "nice" one. Now you hear of 5 or six. I saw a pretty good 8 point the first week. But never crossed paths with it again.

That's too bad. Haven't been there since 2001.
Moved from there in 1980.

Conneaut lake area has had several die offs the last several years due to that midge disease.

Is leasing in PA a common thing nowadays? Hell.

That's funny. I live here and never heard of that.

Wasn’t there something in Crawford County ? Hemorrhagic disease?

Not related but one of the deer I shot was covered with Keds. I sat in a spot for a couple of hours and had them on me. What is up with that?

My buddy who lives close to the Pymatuning management area said the same thing. He found numerous dead deer in/around his house. In the other end of the county, we have no such thing. I will say the Pym WMA Hass had die offs through the years that didn't sem to happen anywhere else.

Keds were the worst last year I had ever seen. There were days in archery season I just left the Woods because they were too bad. That's never happened before

EHD. Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease. Western PA and even Eastern to an extent gets hit with it every few years. Biting midges infect the deer. A cold snap puts an end to it

"Biting midges"

Wonder if they are more prone to hatches because of the lakes, Pymatuning and Conneaut?

I'm about 20 minutes North of Conneaut Lake.

I think so. My buddy found a pile of dead deer last summer. He lives literally across from the northern end of the Hartstown swamp. The Pymatunimg goose mgt area has been hit several times in the past 30 years.

I think the swamp/ goose mgmt. area has the perfect storm. Stagnant water, lots of concentrated deer. Nature does what nature does, never fun to watch and almost always seems the big boys get hit the hardest.

Skank,
Now I remember the conversation, not certain the location. It was up Carrolltown way?
Yep Karl, I'm real close to Carrolltown (closer to Patton). My boy works at K-metal.

I don’t live in PA but will travel there every year to trout fish and deer hunt.

Sssshhhhhh……. Let everyone keep thinking there are no deer and PA sucks!!! Haha
Not a bad plan haha. The bucks that I have on my cameras have been getting better and better every year. Shot a 140 class buck a few years ago on public land. I cant complain
