USPS insurance is a huge scam, and the people running it are likely scum. Based on my experience with two claims involving a broken rifle stock and a destroyed framed print, the only way to have them honor their insurance is to get your congressman and senator involved. Literally CC them every correspondence you have with USPS and write and additional letter voicing your dissatisfaction and expectations. Their policy is to deny everything, regardless of evidence. Know that they're going to do that, and just ride it out. They'll always find some reason for denial, but keep fighting them. On your third and final appeal, if you've involved the politicians and played their little game, you'll finally get your money.

Having been through their idiot process a couple times now and knowing what scum they are, I now photograph everything of importance that I send out. I photograph the item as well as the stages of packaging to show that it was properly done. The packaging issue and documentation of value are the most common reasons they use to deny.

I'm glad to hear that it reappeared on tracking and hope that everything will turn out-most of all that the tragedy of the broken stock is rectified.

Contrary to this event, I have had very good service from the USPS.

The package mentioned above was 22 pounds of buckshot in a medium flat rate box. I think it sat on some table because an individual employee refused to pick it up because it was heavy. Contrary of course to their tag line "One rate any weight!"

When setting your personal expectations for USPS - remember this, it's a .gov service not a business that needs to worry about CSAT or NPS scores. They're empowered to provide a service but not turn a profit or make you happy.

Find me a new in stock/available Supergrade Maple in 30-06.

There’s one on Gunbroker for $1870+$40 shipping + transfer.

If I sell you a 1oz pure 9999 Gold bar for $1, is the Gold Bar actually worth $1 because “you established that the item was worth $1.” or is the item actually worth $2,100 and you have a $2,099 positive equity position?????

Don’t be dense

Is that price you quote for a super grade with a busted stock? Or do you want them to reimburse you for a brand new one when the one you shipped was all busted up?

Sounds to me like you are the dense one, expecting to be reimbursed the brand new top dollar price for a used item that is severely damaged (and had an established value of $400). I hope it shows up for you but I doubt they will pay you new cost of a damaged item that they themselves didn’t damage.

Any insurance folks here?

How much would it cost to get outside insurance for $2K for a package being shipped USPS?

Not for the value at time of purchase (in this case $400), not for a value to be determined by the insurer, but for the stated value of $2K at time of purchase of the insurance?

Is such a thing possible?

Shipsurance

There are others too. 2k with Shipsurance would be like $17.50 - rough estimate from their web site claims.

Go back and read my post on page 1. Unless YOU can prove, with a receipt, that YOU paid $2000 for the rifle you aren't going to get chit for it. If anything, the fact that you insured it for $2000 and can't PROVE it, is all the reason the USPS needs to deny any claim until you run out of options. You wasted your money insuring it for that much and likely gave them all the ammo to shoot down your claim. You will be damn lucky to see the $400 that you paid for it and you will have to battle them every step of the way. They don't give a $hit about you or your gun.

I’ve been using Collectables Insurance for several years, primarily for insuring high end knives that I sold. It covers loss in mail, theft, etc. They don’t require serial numbers unless an individual firearm is valued over $25,000. Worth a look.

I had 2 barreled actions go missing that I sent registered mail. Had multiple postmasters tell that simply wasn’t possible as each person that touched it had to sign for it and registered mail is kept in locked cage…..blah blah blah.

Well gumshoo tell me where the fook it is at? After a week or so it magically appeared.
