My local shop took in a Remington 141 in 30 Remington. This one has engraving on the receiver and some unusual checkering on the forend. I've seen some D and F grade guns, but their engraving is much more elaborate than this rifle. Any clues?

That is a new one on me and I am guessing it was quite pretty in it's day. I assume it has "high Grade" wood as well. Those 3 extra holes are enough to make you sick.

What does the wood like in the buttstock? I’m no expert on high grade Remingtons but the engraving pattern looks like one they would use. The checkering on the forend does not. But if it is a factory job they would have done what the customer wanted. Cool rifle either way!!

Yes, the grain on the buttstock is rather plain, as it the faint checkering. Maybe a replacement, either forend or buttstock. Most common breaks are at the wrist, so i would guess the buttstock might be a replacement.

That's not a 141. It's a 14. The forearm is definitely a 14 shape and style, and I'm pretty sure if it were a 141 it would say GAMEMASTER on the left side of the receiver. The serial number puts it at 1914, 20 some years before the 141 was debuted.

ETA - check the barrel length. 14 had a 22" barrel with a milled raised front sight base like this [Linked Image from images.gunsinternational.com] The 141 was 24" and the front sight base was screwed on like a 760.

We have a new Remington Fans forum here on the fire with some pretty knowledgeable folks frequenting it. You might want to post these pictures over there for more and better analysis

this website might help too.
Remington society

It's a beauty though. I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

The barrel is 22"....I measured it at the shop. I'll find out about the front sight.

The rifle section forum in the Remington Society website has several very knowledgeable people on the 14 & 141, especially one “nambujim”.

Yes, back then who would have guessed how a D&T would be viewed 100 years later :-)
