LD, I have a R2 in D2 and love it but there are some videos of them going side by side with Aus-8 in rope cutting and they are very close. Might be phony but I don't think so. I've had my d2 version be covered in surface rust after a day of rail hunting in the salt. Nothing major but it needs cleaned up at the end of the day.

Mine has been busy doing a lot of box cutting and plastics cutting. Some wire stripping, but not much. Haven't experienced that rust problem. Not yet, anyway. Slaves get what they need. The factory edge does appear to be ground at a pretty shallow angle, so maybe sharpening at a steeper angle will help. Nowadays, the Rat 2 in D2 or this one from LA Police Gear in S35VN are my go-to:
