What do you need for the cloning... pictures, dimensions...? The last version would be easiest to clone as it uses a standard rifle butt plate. The barrel band will be the hard part.

I just hate the thought of taking apart one and sending off the BB. I don't think I could sleep at night.

I have a couple fore stocks, and am making a prototype clone of the band from aluminum. It will probably be a flat band. Any pics or drawings would be very much appreciated.

Fireball, how about a couple close up pics. i have reverse engineered the inside dimensions, so a good view of the exterior will probably get me where I am going. I did not know how rare these are.

Unfortunately I haven't mastered photos for this forum.
David's photos don't really show it, but as you can imagine the top (barrel part) and bottom (wood part) have different shapes. The top follows the barrel contour until it gets to the wood. Then the bottom part follows the contour of the wood. Thus there is a transition at the barrel/top of the wood interface. The band bends somewhat there, but there is also a significant machined "bump" on the inside of the band. David, if you can take a close up photo of the barrel/top of the wood interface looking from the muzzle end, I think that would be very helpful for Sam.

I haven’t any direct experience with the technology, but maybe someone could scan a barrel band into a 3D printer and the “copy” could be used as a model for reproducing a steel version. That is for those so inclined and with the skills and talents for doing so.

Wow! I am overwhelmed at your responses. Thanks to each of you. I now have enough information to support this one-off project. I will share the results, which will now be better than would have been possible without your help.

Might be. If the barrel is about .75" and the fore arm about 1.1" wide, it might work.

I've often wondered how close a Winchester 94 band would be. I used to have a barrelband forearm but sold it toRoy years ago. I never did check out the compatbility of the Winchester band.

I gathered a bunch of variations of full-stock (front band, no top hand-guard), barrel bands from vintage military rifles, hoping to find a near match. Ultimately some were close, and sturdy enough to re-shape, bend&grind.., none were pretty.

I think the shorter route would be to shape one from scratch from an aluminum block (, or brass might be cool, with a matching brass butt plate! Savage 99H Golden Boy)

Triple deuce, no need to disassemble. I have the info I need. Thanks much for the offer.

Jeff, I like the idea of brass, thank you. I had planned to use a plastic buttplate, because I have one that fits reasonably well, but I like your idea better.

I will let it out of the bag that this is going on a 360 BH. I had planned a Picatinny rail, but now that will change as well. Just switched from pistol grip to straight, so my percent complete keeps going down.
