What are the distance ratings of the Sig and Geovid you're comparing?

Jordan,

It may not be a fair comparison because my sigs are 6k rated and my leicas are 2k. I notice a difference a lot closer though.

The leicas do well in good conditions out to 900-1000 yards for me, though they are noticeably slower than the sigs. Past 1k the sigs pull away.

The big difference I see is that the sigs are a lot better in bad conditions, as Stick said. A foggy or hazy day really makes the sigs stand out to me.
Thanks for the info. The stronger laser that is typically used in RFs rated for greater distances helps with signal strength in all conditions and at all distances, so it’s not surprising that a RF rated for 6k yards performs better than one rated for 2k yards. I have owned several Sig RFs rated for 2000-2200 yards and multiple Leica RFs rated for 2000-2200 yards, and there was no comparison in RF performance- the Leicas were miles ahead.

I am glad to hear from both you and Stick that Sig has a RF that performs extremely well in the 6k model.

I have ranged out to 3600 yards with my Vortex Fury HD5000 AB

Too bad that AB screwed the pooch with these

What does that mean? I greatly underestimated my FuryAB's before I bought them and really like them alot.

It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Mule Deer,

Slightly off topic but have you considered adapting your future product review articles more towards Big Stick’s style?

Anteloper,

Now there's an idea! But despite Stick's straight-to-the-point style, they'd be either way too short or way too long, depending on how much repetition was involved.

But the big change I've made since starting "semi-retiring" over the past few years is writing far fewer reviews, or other articles.

I'm curious if the SIG binocs with LRF have trouble in cold, like the standard SIG LRF?

I have experienced issues with the standalone SIG LRF not operating, or turning on and quickly dying, while my old Leica just powers up and works without trouble at the same exact time. Even swapped batteries between the units, and the SIG wouldn't work. Then installed a new battery in the SIG and still would not function.

I have seen other people, at various forums, state the same problem with SIG units not working in cold ambient. Might be colder than many people hunt in though!

Now that's very interesting! It can pretty cold here in Montana during hunting season--the coldest I've hunted in was right around -40.

They range great but the AB software was way off for my 143 ELD-X load. I mean way off. I suspect they will eventually use their own Geoballistics product in them.
I'll revisit then
