I've got an older Remington 700 BDL in 30-06 caliber.
The barrel is pretty worn and I was thinking about replacing it.
If I wanted to go to another Long Action caliber such as .270 or 25-06 would the barrel be the only thing that needed changing?

Thanks.
Is this something your average skill level handiman can do, or should it be sent to the gunsmith?

Might want to change the ammo. Not a bad idea. But are you sure it's necessary?

If you go to a 270 or 2506 from a 3006 you should be fine. The bullets will tumble just a bit as they go down the barrel. (That was a joke before I get reamed out)

Is this something your average skill level handiman can do, or should it be sent to the gunsmith? I don't think it's beyond the smarts or talent, but the "average" handy man would not likely have the tools and equipment handy. By asking the question, you need a gunsmith.
