I've got an older Remington 700 BDL in 30-06 caliber.

The barrel is pretty worn and I was thinking about replacing it.

If I wanted to go to another Long Action caliber such as .270 or 25-06 would the barrel be the only thing that needed changing?

Thanks.

Is this something your average skill level handiman can do, or should it be sent to the gunsmith?

Not a bad idea. But are you sure it's necessary? grin

If you go to a 270 or 2506 from a 3006 you should be fine. The bullets will tumble just a bit as they go down the barrel. (That was a joke before I get reamed out)

I don't think it's beyond the smarts or talent, but the "average" handy man would not likely have the tools and equipment handy. By asking the question, you need a gunsmith.
