Just went to the Pac-Nor website, don't see why mikecr could not get a SS Supermatch from em all done up in 6WSM in a short time. Awhile back they were offering barrels ready configured for the Savage bolt guns due to their switch barrel nature. They have a 6WSM reamer too.

And it will be packed with a diamond encrusted 3pc cleaning rod, that does double duty on knife blades.

Well dude it aint me. Am getting a kick out of this myself. But you gotta quit dissin the savage. Ugly as hell you are correct. But mine shoots. And yes I am having some custom work done on her after season. But what I am wondering is this. Isnt it true that most times ten rifles of the same make and caliber will not shoot the same load exactly the same? And some may not even shoot it at all? Am I correct in thinking that EVERY rifle has its OWN "personality" as far as what it likes to be fed/

Some grey area there.

I'll concur on the black/white,that Savage has the corner on ugly.

Now as far as multi rifles responding well to a like load,I'd say it is quite "doable" to assemble a rifle geared expressly to a single load. Something on the order of the M118LR fodder is so doable,as to be mundane.

That doesn't mean that accuracy can't be improved via load development, just that good performance IS predictable.
While personalities certainly exist, there are also traits that dictate a good rifle fed good ammo, will do good things routinely.

No "Tactical" Rifles are fed handloads, for liability concerns,as an example.

That which floats, cain't be taken toooooo seriously...................

If you have "no expectations for the rifle's accuracy",why multi Posts on the nuances of micro internal bore dimension tolerancing?

A single shot that "feeds",don't rate accolades. Even in a Savage................

Lose the barrel nut, with the replacement tube simply correctly headspaced to the receiver in typical fashion WITHOUT the nut.

A couple scritches in the metal, ain't gonna take the eye from that abortion..................

Is this possible? Please tell me yes. And if so can Pac-nor do it?

Of course. ANYBODY can do it. Nothing special to a proper headspaced barrel, tensioned to the receiver.

The nut ain't magical. Just ugly..................

mikecr......let me throw another thought your way.

John Lazzeroni puts Schneider barrels on his premium line of rifles that he sells for more than $5K and everyone knows that his rifles are built for "speed". I find it hard to believe that John would risk his reputation using less than a superior barrel.

mikecr,
A pard recently had a favorite revolver done up with some metal carvings by these guys: web page Turnaround was pretty fast, I'm not in the know on such things but have attempted a few scratches or two on my irons with a hammer and chisel. I was not too proud so I filled em in with silver solder and got a pretty good match. I've been dreaming of having a scene etched in my latest 300WM barrel of a huge brown bear squashing Big Stick and his pink rifle. Does anyone know of a way to add pink color to engravings??? Testor's model airplane paint ain't gonna cut it!!

Mikilesser, let me see if I got this straight. You are all horned up on a Savage action that is mass produced with a "take it or leave" attitude from the manufacturer. They are manufactured with the thought that ten thousandths of an inch in bolt play is okay. You are crying over getting a barrel with MAYBE one or two THOUSANDTHS of difference in the entire barrel length, which you have no way of measuring to be sure they are wrong. And you still want to put said barrel on an action that FULLY has ten thousandths of slop for and aft of the bolt lugs AND bolt race ways?????? Say it ain't so, but you fixed it with your back yard "borden bumps".....ROTFLMAO!!! That should look mighty fine and I am sure those bumps were measured with first class equipment...right???? OH and the stock, oh hell the stock. Where did you come up with that gem for your barrel burner wisbanger that you plan on shooting 5 barrels out of in the first year???? Give some of us a break....our sides hurt. You are going to put all this precision stuff that you have scabbed together, then bed it yourself in a POS stock???? Well, I think the rock chucks are safe. Good luck on your turd. I haven't laughed this hard since the last dude said he was getting 3,200 fps out of his 7mm-08 with 140 grain bullets. For all the money that turd polishing is gonna cost you, why don't you buy a custom action, Oh wait, you made one out of a savage, my bad Flinch

This is getting good and wouldn't miss it for anything. Am thinking I might even learn something about bedding a stock.

What I'm dying to know,is how your sidekick,in the Post above thinks a barrel works?

I quote(pay attention here,'cuz it's beautiful) "I didn't ask for superior consistancy or tight tolerances from the P-word maker, but rather controlled tolerances. Not to exceed a certain value".

I'm hoping he solicits outside work, because I wanna give you an Xmas present(GRIN)

Then it gets "Technical" and I again quote(fasten your seat belt,as this is a doozy!) "As I stated, further work was to be done which would not work if specified dimensions were exceeded".

It is that fluent flow of mechanical genius, that gives the onlookers a warm fuzzy feeling, that the first shot outta this contraption is gonna be right up to snuff.

Wouldja want that glass bedded or simply to go???............(grin)

mikecr,

If you're planning on having the Blackstar treatment done, why don't you just buy one of their barrels and be done with it, or did they stop selling their barrels. In fact, I thought I heard somewhere that Blackstar wasn't doing the polishing and tapering treatment for the public anymore. Am I misinformed?
The guy you need to talk to is Silver Bullet. He has a Blackstar barrel on one of his rifles and speaks highly of it.

I guess the other thing I'm curious about- how much shooting do you plan on doing that you plan on "going through a lot of barrels"? What type of shooting puts that much ammo through a barrel in a short time? Just curious more than anything else.
Also, if you're planning on putting this much money and time into a Savage actioned rifle, (custom stock, Blackstar barrel, engraving, Borden bumps?, etc....) what the heck are you having a PGW TI rifle built for? Or the other way around?

Methinks there is a bit of pulling of legs going on here? I also think I need a REALLY big piece of chocolate cake about now. Anyone want to join me?- Sheister
