Sounds like we're near neighbours then, Mac. I live about two hours north of International Falls.

Same here. When younger I even spent several months in Alberta, my favorite province--and one I hunt in every couple of years. Of course, it is close to Montana, and so very similar in terrain and game--and rural attitude.

Have also hunted in BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, NWT and Nunavut, and fished in most of them too. Great hunting and fishing, and fantastic country, but the best part is the people!

A little further than that. The Canada I'm referring to is Sarnia. smile

I must have been thinking of someone that showed their address as western MI. Well then you live within a 100 miles of my wife's kin who live down river from Detroit.

Mr. Mac84;
When I read your posts as well as the ones from Mr. Mule Deer, Mr. AcesNeights, Mr. Ivan, Mr. smokepole and of course Mr. Royce and Mr. DanD, I again confirmed my opinion that Canadians do have the best neighbours(CDN spelling!) wink in the world.

The posts were very much appreciated by this Canadian, so thank you all very much.

Regards,
Dwayne

Canadians and Americans like to hack on each other- Like brothers or buddies- But I know I'd rather have the good ol' USA as a neighbor than any other country. Most of the time wink

It was a bit more than a "few". Over 30,000 Canadians joined the American military and served in Vietnam. Interestingly that is about the same number of American draft dodgers who skipped to Canada.

I think the USA got the better end of the deal there ...........

Mr. Cariboo;
Thank you for that clarification.

I knew there were some, but had no idea there were 30,000 that went. As I said, the chap I worked with was like many American vets of that war in that he didn't talk about it at all, except to say he'd been there.

Thanks again for the information, I appreciate you posting it.

Dwayne

Also, as I was driving, Canadian news was telling of Canadian soldiers killed while fighting side by side with Americans in Afghanistan. Canadians have fought on our side in every war I am aware of. During Viet Nam, many Canadians gave their lives. While Jimmy Carter was president, Canadian forces rescued 60 or so hostages being held by Iran.
So, Canadians, thanks, for being great neighbors.

Thank you for that. Glad you enjoyed the brief time here.
The figure was close to 26,000 Canadians volunteered to fight in Nam.
Yes our Soldiers are fighting in one of if not the hottest part of Stan.
We have lost over 360 soldiers there in the last 3 yrs.
While you read this keep in mind that our countries pop. is about 32 million about the same as California.
The Iran caper you mention was pulled off by the Canadian embassy in Iran.
Here's some shootin for ya article Can. snipers)...These are the boys I am so proud of.

Lastly we are neighbors and rightly we should have each others back when the stuff hits the fan I hope it never changes.

Wow this thread grew quick waited to long to post LOL

[quote=BC30cal]You are correct that a few Canadians did fight in Viet Nam, as I worked with a Canadian who had joined the US Army and did at least one tour in country. Like many of that wars vets, he didnt talk much about it, but he was there./quote]

Vietnam Veterans in Canada have their own web site (http://vvic.net/). A visit and consideration of their contribution to American operations can be an eyeopener.

Thank you very much sir for the link.

It was truly interesting and led to a few other links that were very educational as well.

Thanks again, it is always good to learn.
