Relatives on my wife's side used to own a large distributorship, but that was like taking candy from a baby - no satisfaction. I almost quit drinking. After they got out of the beer business the joy returned. There's nothing like sitting in the hot sun drinkin' somebody else's beer...

I remember my Navy days ... seemed I drove drunk about as much as I did sober ... not condoneing those actions mind U ... just the way it was in my young days (notice I didn't say young and dumb days ... still dumb <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />) It is amazing I never got caught, and consider myself lucky ... now if I'm driving there is a two beer limit and that's it. I could handle me getting hurt ... but I guess in my old age, it would really bother me alot if I hurt someone else 'cause I was stupid.
Ahh ... to be young and carefree again!! Cool Florida nites, top-down on the 442, a 12-pack and the back roads around Orlando ... many fun nites.
I'm a dyed in the wool A-B guy, and always have Budweiser and Bud Light longnecks in the fridge, and Michelob Light on tap in the garage.
For those times when a craft brew is on the menu, my personal favorites include the beers from Anderson Valley Brewing in Northern CA (especially Boont Amber), Newcastle Brown Ale, Deschutes Black Butte Porter from Bend, Oregon, and if I'm really in an esoteric mood, Chimay Cinq Cents from Belgium.
I've always said that there are no bad beers, just some that are better than others. Anything from Miller may be the only exception!
Michelob seems to be pretty popular - got a friend who's dad has a hot tub in the house - tapp plumbed right up to the edge with the 'lobe. Never even has to get out of the tub for beer!

teal, I also live in SA. I drink Leinies whenever I can find it, and I can always get it back home in WI when I'm home deer hunting from TX. I love the Northwoods Lager - especially when watching the Pack!
Yep - he is very sucessful - owns a machine shop. Had an awesome 69 YANKO camaro. Had the docs of being 1 of 5 know to exist.
He also has a full set of belgian browning shotguns 12,20,410 - those go to his future son in law - in fact I was preassured to be just that several times by him.
Cool guy -always offered us all everything he had - just that type of guy.
Spend his time now in a motorhome driving all over creation - biggest damn rig I've ever seen - then tows an explorer behind it.
Coors Light or Keystone Light. Rum and cokes,, captain and OJ, firewater or 99 bananas. When I used to go out with my friends in PA we would drink a heck of alot of tequila rose and snake bites. Designated drivers are wonderful people...lol.

Leinies creamy dark is a very smooth hearty beer with just a little bite to it. A quite pleasureable brew somewhat similiar to Guiness for about $3.00 a six pack less. Guiness is of course an excellent choice and sometimes you just have to breakdown and get it ( a little arm twisting usually does it).
For the red beers, Killians and Leinies reds are excellent choices, both have a nice body and a good distinct flavor.
Probably the best beer I ever had was a Sprecher, a small brewing company in Milwaukee that makes beer the old fashioned way. I don't remember the type of beer it was, but it was a thick brew with a wonderful dark head that stayed with the brew until quaffed. A truly magnificent brew.
Chimay (from the Trappist monks in Belgium I believe) has quite a kick to it and will really knock your socks off if you're not careful. It's is one of the really heavy thick beers with a wonderful head, but it's somewhat bitter so you have to be in the mood for it. At $10.00 a bottle (similar in size to a champagne bottle) it is not a beer to serve to alot of guests.
Most of the small breweries in Wis turn out some good brews in small batches. I had some Mississippi Mud a few years ago and it was quite good, although I haven't seen it around lately.
As for the likes of Miller, Bud, and Coors, any of the three will do if nothing else is available, but only as a last resort. Coors is worst of the bunch, and Bud and Miller are almost interchangeable.
As far as the hard stuff, Jose Cuervo or a good mezcal tequila in a fresh strawberry margarita can't be beat on a hot summer day. Usually have a pitcher or two when the time is right. Jagermeister is our drink of choice in hunting season when the wind is biting and you need something to "warm you up". Of course, you can't beat a good sipping whiskey, or a whiskey sour anytime of the year.
Painless, Pete's used to make some decent brews when they first started up. Now anything available from them is basically low grade goat piss.
One beer I forgot to mention that is one of my all time favorites: If anyone is ever in Bend, OR, stop by the Bend Brewing Company in old town down by the river. They make a spectacular IPA, one of the best I've ever had. Trust me, I've had one or two <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Blake, it hasn't gotten that bad.................. it's worse.
If you can name the beer, I have most likely tried it. I make my living in the beer industry and between trade association conventions, industry conferences, and just in general knowing a lot of the people in the industry, I have tried about everything at one time or another.
Last year in Las Vegas, there were probably in the neighborhood of 500 different individual brews available for sample. Of the ones I tried, and I tried a lot, two caught my attention for being very good, and I can only remember the name of one of them.
Most of the better exotic beers come from small shops, whether they be in the U.S. or Europe. The Belgian monks make some GREAT beers, including the Chimay family, Grimbergen, Tripel Karmelit, and Kwak.
There are lots of people that can make a decent beer, but most are technically proorly done, and the mistakes are covered by the hoppiness or maltiness. A lot of people will bemoan the large brewers for putting out "boring" beers, but I can guarantee you that there is not one single craft brewer in America that has the skill, resources, and equipment to brew Buidweiser, Coors, or MGD to the level of quality and consistency that the big guys do. It is much more difficult to brew a beer like Budweiser, that has very little bitterness or malt to cover mistakes than it is to brew any stout or porter.
