My oldest is 39 and we started late! In fact, she has 20 years in with the SO in August. Man, I need a new chariot. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Now wait a minute. Some of that stuff is relevant, and none of it is a personal attack on anyone here. John McCain recently said, "I remember when the Republican party stood for financial responsibility." I also remember that time. Some things I miss about the Republican party are:

1. Talk about a balanced budget amendment. Tax cuts are supposed to be paid for with spending cuts.

2. Red ink was no way to finance a recovery. Long term, it always leads to tax increases and longer recessions.

3. Surpluses should first be used to pay down the national debt.

4. Supply side economics is a farce over the long term. At best, all's it does is temporarily buys votes, then losses them when the stuff hits the fan.

5. Dipping into trust funds to pay for pork is wrong.

6. The president should be given a line item veto so we don't have to have pork just to get some level of action from government.

7. Efficiency in government can save tax dollars, and should be sought fanatically.

8. All constitutional guarantees should be held dear, not just the ones supported by monied interests.

I don't know if Haggis was trying to stir things up, but some of those things are real issues with fence sitters that will decide who sits in the white house next January. Face it, the radicals on both ends who vote one way no matter what, rose colored glasses or blinders permanently in place, aren't the ones that look at things rationally. The republican party has moved away from the mainstream. When Bush can stand up at a $10,000 a plate dinner and say, "Some call you the elite, I call you my base" without so much as a flinch after all the energy scandals, corporate pension scandals, insider trading scandals, no bid contract scandals, and everything else contrary to traditional party values of fair play and fiscal responsibility, you know something is rotten with the grand ol' party. Where's Ross Perot when you need him?

I think you hit a nerve Haggis. Now anybody who doesn't agree with the predominant board view is treated as a troll? What class.

You forgot one though. You can bash someones service record if they were in VN, but you can overlook someone who avoided the war by using daddy's influence.

Helluva sandbass bite going on in the bay right now. Looks like the 'cudas are moving in, too. Might be time to get out in the boat ... a nice bass chowder and fried halibut dinner sounds superb!

Anyone like ling cod?

It is interresting that all these coroporate scandles broke as Bush came into office- the scandalizing being done uner the past admin.

Seems the lack of personal accountability rubbed off from Clinton.

Rick - I wouldn't go to a feminist site and talk bout having my supper on the table and clothes washed when I get home and the little lady had better be barefoot and pregnant.

While I may be free to post such things - it is a little moronic to then wonder why you catch flack. You know where you are and the underlying beliefs and feeling of many on this board- don't act so supprised when your views are then gone after.

Places like the Campfire do tend to have a central to right view amongst its members, our lifestyle and personal choices fit in with that particular demographic.

It is a little naive to think that when you spout something that is not a commonly held belief by the members of the community you aren't going to catch a little he!!.

While most do not have a problem with you posting what you want - do not come crying when the others who do not believe what you do rebuff your pov.

To my knowledge Rickbin has never deleted one of your posts so don't even try the freedom of speech line. Just realize where you are and if you don't like the responses given to your posts - stop posting them.

Teal, I am not wondering why I catch flack or crying about it. I don't know where you get that idea. Don't worry, I've gotten quite used to some posters resorting to name calling when a differing point of view is espoused. I personally view name calling as an immature response by an immature person, and I ignore it.

There were some posters here who were trolls and deserved troll like treatment. Larrymartin and agree come to mind. Haggis doesn't fit into that category by any stretch of the imagination. To treat him as such is wrong. For the webmaster to respond to my post in a way to insinuate that I too am a troll because of my political beliefs is ignorant. If he believes me to be a troll, then remove me from the campfire, it's that easy.

rick_g, If the Rickmeister thought you or haggis were truly trolls. Simple, you would not be here.

On the other hand I imagine I am on a few "you are ignoring this poster" lists myself. Don't get your panties in a wad, I don't when I get whacked around.

Your right, one doesn't have to buy what I'm selling, but it pays to listen to anyone, anytime.

I do have a tendency to stir the cow patty a bit when I can. I don't believe in the dogma spewed by either political party, but it does my heart good to see so many defend so little in the way of truth, while attacking logical facts.

The Republican Party once had sound judgement behind what they did; today it's all about hands off big business and controlling people's lives.

For those of you who wish to attack me personally, we are all incognito here, knock yourself out. For those of you who don't respond in any way other than pretending to ignore the post, you remind me of one of my daughters when she was three years old and didn't want to be told something. She would put her fingers in her ears, close her eyes and say, "'Nore, 'nore, 'nore." Her word for "ignore."

There are some brilliant, honest, and logical people here, don't play the child with me or the other readers. It's demeaning to you and to this forum.

First of all, how probable is it to balance the budget with a major war going on? Slim to none, that is the real world.

Secondly, it is laughable for democrats to discuss fiscal responsibility when history clearly shows them to be the best at buying votes by giving freebe handouts to their constituents. Frankly, the Republicans play this also, and one could argue where is the party for the average working class person, neither party in my mind excels for us. The democrats love scaring people about "social security" yet steal from it routinly over the years. The democratic party is a far cry from what it "used to be". Many vote democrat only because their "daddy" and "mommy" voted democrat. It is the party of "handouts", it is the party that demotivates workers, it is the party with the best record of stealing away your "rights", it is the party that invented "election stealing" re - Kennedy/Chicago?1960 vote, it is the party that gave new meaning to dirty politics, it is the party that places it's own power as a higher priority than our national defense, and it is the party loaded with constituants who believe the gov't owes them something.

For all of those reasons, ......I left the democratic party. Is the Republican party perfect, absolutely not, but it matches my way of thinking alot closer than screaming, out of control, democrats.

And while we are talking about "Daddy's" and "favorite sons", I remember during the Vietnam war you couldnt get in the navy, because it was overloaded with "favorite sons". Any Questions? Pretty high tech to have a movie camera to take movies of you while on your 4 month tour, receiving 3 purple hearts, and never spent a night in the hospital..........HUMM........
