I'm betting I'll eventually settle on the load I just shot (260 grain Nolser Accubond over 73 gr of Reloader 15 ) or - more likely, the most accurate load I'll get with a 270 gr Barnes TSX - generally speaking - my all-time favourite bullet made.

The only thing likely to change that - would be if Barnes decides to boat-tail and tip the 375's - with a TTSX!

For accuracy, I like IMR-4064, that is the powder I use when I want to know if a certain .375 will shoot..It seems to work everytime...My hunting loads are sometimes RL-15..Those are my chosen powders..

For the big stuff I wouldn't consider less than a 300 or 350 gr. bullet in the .375..If I want a lighter bullet I'll use a lighter caliber..In fact I am pretty much sold on the 300 gr. bullet for lighter stuff like Impala, Elk or deer..It kills well and you get less meat loss.

Ray,
I used one of your reccomendations. I put a 270 Speer BTSP over 70 gr of IMR 4064 (used Fed 215 primer) and it flat puts the smackdown on deer & antelope. Didn't get the chance to try it on elk though. I kind of like that Speer bullet for big game in the US.

I've never hunted a Brown Bear but hope to some day. Based on what I've read here and told to me personally by some very experienced and learned friends, a 260gr Accubomb would be just about at the bottom of my list for Brown Bear;right next to the Sierras. TTSX baby, driven FAST! jorge

From what I've seen I'd have no misgivings about using the 270-gr TSX @ 2700 fps on everything (incl brown bear) up to cape buffalo; for them I'd go the 300-gr route in a TSX or other premium but I'd also rather have a bigger hole in the end of my barrel for buff.

I am not a big Sierra fan, but some of the the local gun nuts here all use the 250 gr. Sierra in their .375s for elk, and they always show me those pretty little mushroomed bullets, I have seen so many of them now that I am convienced they are an excellent elk bullet at around 2800 or so FPS. Never used them but I am tempted. They sure are accurate in my gun..but I would not choose them in the thick nasty dark timber swamps where the big bulls hide..I will stick with my 300 gr. Woodleigh in my .338 for that or my 350 gr. Woodleighs in my 375, cause I have to shoot them up the keyster, never get any other shot it seems.

I've not tried the Sierra 250-grs either. I guess I'd be more inclined to go to the 260-gr. Nos Part for a light bullet load in the .375, but if the Sierras work....

Being as you're a heavy bullet fan another candidate you might try in your .338 for elk in the thick stuff is the 275-gr Swift A-frame. I bought two boxes for my 340 Wby when I had a brown bear hunt on tap. It fell through but they are quite accurate at ~ 2675 fps in the WBy and I have no doubt they'd work well

I have been working with the .375 H&H throughout the summer and have really grown fond of this classic caliber. It reminds me of an artillery shell! Anyway, the load I finally settled on for my Rem 700 XCR features the Barnes 270 grain TSX, in Rem neck sized brass, Fed GM215MAG primers, and over 72 grains of Vihtavuori N-540. Average muzzle velocity is only 2,614 fps out of my rifle, and finding this powder has become a real pain in the backside for me, but it really performs in my rifle. Heres a five shot and three shot group at 100 yards, as the rifles thin barrel heats up it strings vertically downward:

Hope to have the opportunity to bloody this load and rifle on an upcoming elk hunt in Northwestern Colorado later this month! grin

has anybody used the 250 trophy bonded....loaded by federal in their premium line. I shot some this afternoon I found that were leftovers from when I was trying loads for Africa. Never got around to shooting them then, but I pulled them out thinking I might use them on a boar hunt. The rifle liked them just fine.

I would think they ought to go through the biggest hog in Tennessee from either direction but would like to hear from somebody who has shot something with them.

The two powders I use in the 375 and in my 375 Wby are H4350 and R15. I'd try both of them and see which one perks the best.

Haven't tried them yet, but Alaska Bullets shows two flavors of 250-grainers. My .375 WeM likes Sierra's with 4064 but not very fast...

Has anybody loaded those 265 grain GS monos yet? I seem to remember somebody loading them to over 3000 fps with RL15 or Varget - that range of powder and the pressure was supposed to be low. They appear to have great BCs and are long for weight which they retain most all of. They seem like a perfect hunting bullet. Easy on the gun, flat shooting, deadly.

Not a .375 but one of my hunting buddies neatly took a large Russian brown bear with a .325 WSM and 200 gr. Accubonds, no problems.

A number of powders work well in the .375 H&H. That said, IMR 4064 WAS the factory loaded powder for many years in the .375 H&H for good reason, it works very well.

A load I just tried today while using VV N-140. With 66.5grs behind a Swift A-Frame 300gr bullet lit by a Fed 215GMM, it placed 3 bullets in a vertical row, all touching. This powder leaves enough room in the case to be used with any 300gr bullet and not have a compressed load. grin 67.5grs of IMR4064 does almost the same thing.

Remington 700 Safari

71 grains of RL 15

Barnes TSX 270 grain

64 grains RL 15

300 grain Fail-Safe

I've most shot the rifle standing up after I got it sighted in and the few loads I've tried checked.

I don't mind the thump standing up. Off the bench, thank the good lord for the Caldwell Lead Sled.

Goodnews,
In my .338 my all time favorite load in the thick stuff or in Africa is the 300 gr. Woodleigh, it really smacks'em down..

In the 375 I like that 350 gr. RN Woodleigh for elk and softer skin animals, again it smacks'em down. It also works well on buffalo in herd hunting as it stops on the off side skin expanded to the size of a quarter or bigger.... The 350 gr. PP Woodleigh is tops for buffalo with ample penetration for angle shots. I use the PP on bachlor bulls and the RN in herds..
